Nehrim finally coming out tomorrow

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:57 pm

Open cities shouldn't affect FPS at all really. I'm sure Arthmoor will also tell you this :P

With the caveat that what I keep saying applies to the vanilla cities, or to similarly sized mod built cities. I have no idea how large Nehrim cities are but since it's a TC and you won't have 6 million mod-added AIs getting in the way it shouldn't be that big of a deal unless these cities themselves are ginormous.

Blog says an English version is coming, so I'll have to wait for that. This looks awesome.

Anyone want to translate the installer or the readme? I can try to google translate the readme, but the installer I doubt I can translate easily. Only 4 hours left till it downloads.

Really? they are paid for that?

No, I don't think that. I think that the SureAI team is persuasive as hell, and doesn't need payment to get what they want. :D
It even says that they got permission for putting Schandmaul in for a small concert in the game... just like the In Extremo gig in Gothic.

I used google and translated the link in the first post and could not tell if this is german only? It mentioned an international release - does that mean English subtitles?

thanks

I found this in one of the threads "Many English speaking people told us, that they want the professional German voices in Nehrim and just English subtitles. And that is what we do."

.completely devoid of khajit and argonians. im hoping its a more serious, less cartoony setting than oblivion was set in also.

its a new game..........WITHOUT khajit and argonians.

A lot of hate for Khajiit and Argonians I see. My question is: why not elves too? They fall into the same category as far as I'm concerned...

As for the mod:

Wow....just wow.... I wish I knew German!

A total conversion? Completed?

THIS IS MADNESS!

Ditto.

Just posting this about the English translation since I am working on it. It will be German voiced and English subtitles. So every time someone speaks, you should get a subtitle to read unless there is a hick-up in the game. So far as I can tell, 95% of the time you can read them with time to spare but there are a few that come close to disappearing.

To get this out for the English there will be a sacrifice in book translations in the game (maybe in time we can get them done in the future) but other than that everything else possible in the game will be in English. I am surprised that I have gotten this far in the short amount of time I had.

The English is basicly done but it needs proofreading and tidding up. Possibly and they might get mad at me for saying it, maybe it will be ready in a few weeks or sooner and lets hope for sooner.

I'm not sure how it will be packaged, meaning if the English.esp will be merged into the esm or used as a mod (patch). I'm thinking it will be done the same as Arktwend where you will download the German Installer, download the English.ESm or ESP separately and swap the files.

If you download the German Installer right now, it depends upon your speed, it can take up to 7 hours or so. It might be good to wait a few days to let the servers cool down.

I for one am hyped up! I hope, if this is your plan, that you all get gaming jobs.

I also agree that the original German voices should be kept in the English version. With English subtitles of course. After having watched many non-English movies dubbed into English, the acting loses something in the translation. The body language contrasts somehow with the spoken (dubbed) words.

thats mostly just me. :) i dont mind elves cause they essentially look like regular people but with pointy ears and in the case of the dunmer purple skin...ok the dunmer do kind of remind me of human/barney hybrids in oblivion but they were bad ass in morrowind. orcs just rock cause they were my fave guys to use in dawn of war 40000. and they pretty much established in many fantasy games. TES games are the only ones that use khajits and argonians and as such arent as widespread also they constantly remind me of a pet store. lizardmen in nwn games is the closest i can think of but at least DnD made them act like lizardmen instead of dressing them up in clothes like paris hilton does with her poodles. so if its close to a human i dont mind or if its completely alien like the dagoth ur guys in morrowind or the creatures in shivering isles then they fit into my imagination nicely. i have a cat and one of my friends has a lizard.......so thats what i think of when i see them ingame. i would have preferred that they created an entirely new race from scratch instead of being lazy and just picking their pets. mass effect 2 did this nicely with the krogan and other races. GO KROGANS!

Congrats on the release, Sureai team!
I'm sure, Nehrim is going to become known as one of the greatest gifts since Morrowind. :touched:

I understand what you mean now. I had the same initial thought (I always think animal-people are a cop-out creativity-wise), but as I learned Bethesda lore I quickly came to accept and enjoy their presence.

Anywho, best original race of the ES games is most definitely the Sload. They don't look like anything that I've seen before (well, except for the Hutts perhaps). But the lore differs them enough to make them incredibly interesting as a race.

Okay, I'm done with my off-topic spew.

Still drooling over Nehrim's trailer....

After you installed the Software start the Nehrim launcher, go to "Spieledateien" and deselect everything there is only select the two nehrim files "Nehrim.esm" & "NehrimData.esp" now you should be able to start a new game.

protip: if you can't do anything after creating your character and falling down the pit, try lighting a torch.

This is very non-obvious if you can't read any of the quest text.

I am not able to get the game launched. I suspect it might be due to me having Shivering Isles and I use OBSE to launch my normal Oblivion. In reading the website I know Nehrim copies Oblivion and any needed files but I could not see if you needed to not have Shivering Isles installed.

I click the shortcut on my desktop and the screen goes black - just like playing Oblivion and instead of the opening credits I get the error popup (Oblivion has encountered a problem and needs to close), so I cannot get to the loader screen to deselect all other mods that were copied as part of the setup / install process. That is why I think my issue is either OBSE (since I use that to launch Oblivion) or Shivering Isles. Any thoughts?

Edit: I copied OBSE into the Nehrim folder and trying launching the game. Got same error popup - Oblvion has encountered an error and needs to close.

how important exactly is the dialouge in this game. are their important clues or can it be solved without understanding a word they say.
