Nehrim finally coming out tomorrow

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:41 pm

I am not able to get the game launched. I suspect it might be due to me having Shivering Isles and I use OBSE to launch my normal Oblivion. In reading the website I know Nehrim copies Oblivion and any needed files but I could not see if you needed to not have Shivering Isles installed.

I click the shortcut on my desktop and the screen goes black - just like playing Oblivion and instead of the opening credits I get the error popup (Oblivion has encountered a problem and needs to close), so I cannot get to the loader screen to deselect all other mods that were copied as part of the setup / install process. That is why I think my issue is either OBSE (since I use that to launch Oblivion) or Shivering Isles. Any thoughts?

Edit: I copied OBSE into the Nehrim folder and trying launching the game. Got same error popup - Oblvion has encountered an error and needs to close.

Don't click on the desktop shortcut instead go to the nehrim folder and start the "NehrimLauncher.exe" then go to "Spieledateien" and deselect everything including the "Oblivion.esm" & "DLCShiveringIsles.esp" and only select the "Nehrim.esm" and NehrimData.esp" files. Now the game should work properly.

Since I'm doing the translation and we are tryng to get it grammar corrrect, I can say I do not think you can get out of the beginning cave without knowing what the German says. There is one spot you have to know what a note says in order to get past that spot. The rest of it I think you can blindly make it out of the cave but then once out again I don't think you will get the guard to open the gate without know German. So it would be difficult. But if you blindly tried everything you would succeed. I really don't want to spoil the adventure and give the steps.

But the opening text message does tell you once you fall down the pit light your torch and Celebro tells you to pick up the dagger on the floor cause you'll need it.

Edit:
They might get mad at me for this but I might be able to find one of my first ESPs that will get you out of the cave and to Tirin Abby but that is as far as you get. It will have grammar mistakes and many of you will post how to get at least that far. It will give you a good idea of what is to follow. How the text on screen will appear with the German.
It will be totally unofficial and if many want it I'll put on Rapid share for a little while. Have to give me time to find the best one. So is there any interest?

Don't click on the desktop shortcut instead go to the nehrim folder and start the "NehrimLauncher.exe" then go to "Spieledateien" and deselect everything including the "Oblivion.esm" & "DLCShiveringIsles.esp" and only select the "Nehrim.esm" and NehrimData.esp" files. Now the game should work properly.

Twistedmetal23 - I still cannot launch the game. Get the same popup message as before. I was able to deselect all the files but the two Nehrim ones and I tried launching the game from the Nehrim launcher and from the desktop shortcut. Odd. I will uninstall Nehrim and then reinstall, leaving all defaults selected (I installed Nehrim on a separate drive from Oblivion) and see if that works. I appreciate your assistance and I know the issue is some setting or file version on my PC and not OBSE or Shivering Isles or Nehrim.

Edit: I noticed when Installing the game the first warning popup shows a number (I assume it is a version of Oblivion reference) of 1.2.0.214 (or it might be saying to have at least this version installed - not for sure). Anyway, I have version 1.2.0.416 of Oblivion. Could that be the problem?

I have been playing it for the last while, it is quite good. I must admit I hated the mine part at the start, but that was due to the atmosphere and generally I hate dark dungeons. I was blown away when I first exited, was hard to believe I was playing Oblivion. Right after taking in the view I saved and turned off the game, first thing I did was remove Depth of Field and started to play again, I hate that shader, our eyes naturally create motion blur and depth of field, having them as shaders makes me feel like I am going blind. :D

Luckily I do know enough German to get by, guess that is one advantage I have gained from living in Vienna for the last six years :D. I do advise anyone that does not know any German to wait till the English release or you may not know what is going on around you.

You can turn it off in the journal menu that's also used for leveling up. There's a choice called "Einstellungen" (settings) and there are a number of additional visual options. Depth of Field should be "Tiefenunsch?rfe" or something like that, I can't remember right now.

The first dungeon is way too hard,I'm on the part with the abandoned inn and since my torch ran out I can't see anything, is there a console command to get me out of the first dungeon?

Am I allowed to install Oblivion to a separete directory to play Nehrim. I have no idea if this is illegal. If it is well, I'll hold of on Nehrim. If it isn't, well off to play.

I would definately love that! Even though I've had german in school a few years back, i have a hard time understanding it, even with subtitles on.
But you probably shouldn't do it if it gets you in trouble.

Well, as long as you own a legal copy of Oblivion, you can install it where ever you want.

Great mod, really impressed with the detail and artistry so far.

I also have a question, I collected the shovels from the other cave, but I'm not sure what to do with them. I have rudimentary German skills that got me that far with relative ease, but I'm lost now. Help would be much appreciated.

We've done an interview with them which you can read http://www.news.scrollstudio.com/2010/06/featured-mod-nehrim/ (it got up the reporter a little early than wanted, but ah well) , we've also included a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zmeYRxwngM version of their release trailer included if you wondered what it was exactly saying. ^_^)

Any solution for this? thx.

(I use a lot of texture mods in Oblivion).

Is Nehrim installed in Oblivion\Data? The best it to install it in a new folder, like C:\Nehrim, otherwise all resources are mixed up. The installation program will automatically copy all required data from Oblivion\Data into Nehrim's folder.

Bring the Shovels to the guard next to the closed gate.. this should trigger the next event...

I really don't know how to help, i have seamless the same Oblivion, English Oblivion 1.2.0.416 with English SI and OBSE v0018 but i didn't encounter any Problems so far, maybe you can post the error msg. if It is in German, would make it easier to understand what kind of problem you have.

Did you try to extract the "Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa" in the Nehrim\Data folder? or any other Texture files to the Nehrim Folder???

BellJack95 => try to replace your Oblivion.ini, by the Oblivion.ini's default (thus very clean ^^).

So I'm guessing that the encounter with the mega troll on the balcony after you crush it with the rocks wasn't supposed to end with me getting hit, then glitched on top of the ropes and running across them

This is epic, I'm loving it so far even though I only understand one word in ten ;)

Does anyone know how to get other mods to run alongside this? I desperately need to get a Chasecameramod type thing going on as I'm getting the old vanilla oblivion motion sickness again lol. Anytime I try results in ctds. I've tried redating the cameramod but makes no difference.

Twistedmetal23 - my apologies, the "error message" that happened when trying to launch the game earlier was just the standard Windows error "Oblivion has encountered an error and must close" message - and the warning message I attempted to describe was just the warning message at the beginning of the installation. This warning message on the popup box was in German and that is where I saw the 1.2.0.214 reference. I have the same setup as you have with version of game. I have reinstalled Nehrim and renamed my current copy of the Oblivion.ini file and Nehrim launched without any error - once I deselected all my mods again! Thank you for your assistance.

papillon - thank you for the suggestion to replace the Oblivion.ini file. I took my current file and renamed it and then when launching Nehrim it created a copy and the game launched fine.

Anyone know how to open Nehrim in the CS. I want to add an eye texture and a another hair mesh.

Spoiler
OK I have no knowledge of German but I want to get a little farther in the game. I am in the beginning mine and there was a dead NPC slumped in his chair at his table. I moved on and got to the point where you hit a lever that stops the barrel on the rope from moving across. What am I supposed to do next I seem to be stuck.

How do you beat the mega troll? I got to the cavern, lit the torches, but can't seem to get him below 3/4s health by just melee hitting him.

How to handle the Mega Troll:
Spoiler
You need to escape him, do not fight.

but now I'm stuck in the same place where Divine Avenger is.

EDIT: this is a google-translated text of the journal entry for a place where I'm stuck:
Spoiler
In a note I found out that the black troll is very sensitive to fire. Somewhere in this room should find torches. This I can put in the note aloud, devices in another cave and burn the troll it.

So i guess I need to burn him somehow. probably if I translate the message from the note, I would know the solution.

Got it - I need to find 4 torches and burn the troll.

How to load Nehrim in CS?
Copy ESM file to Oblivion\Data, load ESM in CS, make a new plugin, and then merge esm with the plugin (or do not merge, you can do as you like, for your own purposes).

I'm after where you are I think, Tom, once you escape him over the ropes, you'll come to a chamber with 2 levers, you pull one of those levels which sends logs going downward, sending 4 torches flying everywhere, picking up the torches makes the troll catch up to you, you run away from him and come to a chamber with 4 torch brackets, those torch brackets hurt/stun him, it seems. I can't seem to figure out what I'm supposed to do with them to kill him, though. I've try'd just leaving him stunned by the first one and running away, but I can't get anywhere else.

As to your stuckness, I'm assuming you've come to the path with the troll and lever at the end, There's another path up a few metres. EDIT: I'm where you're at actually. My method above, will get you out of the room.
