Neon Genesis Evangelion and CHIM

Wasn't it once said on this forum that the monsters such as City-Face are metaphors, not literal beings; that MK was putting a face on different experiences such as being a writer or living in a city? Maybe someone can confirm this.

(At the same time, I've been taking most of the other events in the Sermons literally -- Vivec changing his timeline so that he existed as a god before his birth as a mortal, and so on. When I first read the Sermons years ago, I assumed they were nonsense written by the priesthood, but I came to realize they should probably be taken literally.)

That's exactly what they are, metaphors. But Vivec is a god, and the figments of his mind take actual shapes. It's either part of his process of self-definition or an involuntary side effect. The delusions of a schizophrenic becoming real. That would be a real threat and a motivation to get your mental house in order.

The Sermons first have to be taken literally to try and discern what they stand for metaphorically. And at times it's good to allow yourself to think of ways it could have happened historically, to a mortal Chimer.
