Neon Green Grass - I want it gone.

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2011 3:24 pm

Does anyone know of a way to eliminate the neon green grass effect as seen in this http://i55.tinypic.com/29kpa2r.jpg? I'd appreciate any assistance on this. Thanks.

Aside from that not being neon green, there are 2 ways.
1. Change the texture for that particular grass type.
2. Go through the whole of Tamriel and replace said grass whit something else.

The grass in the middle sure looks neon compared to the foreground, no??

If you open up the edit menu for a grass type, you'll see a setting called Color Range. Adjusting that will help get rid of the neon effect. IIRC, lowering the value will darken the colour, though it's been quite awhile since I've done it and I can't be certain. It's going to be a hassle though trying to find the right grass to adjust, there's a lot of different types. That won't have any effect on the underlying texture though, just the standing grass.

Looks like a simple patch of sunlight to me. From what I can tell the grass in the forward portion of the shot is the same as the "neon" portion.

Could you please expand on this? I was thinking it's HDR related because some other things such as some NPCs, pathways, etc. glow way too brightly as well.

Yeah, I remember that mod from years ago but it is for people who play WITHOUT HDR enabled and it actually causes issues for those, such as me, with HDR. Thanks though man.

Known Issues
Does not work well with HDR enabled. This will tend to result in grass that is noticeably darker than the surrounding terrain.

Tobit

Try changing this value in Oblivion.ini

[BlurShaderHDR]

fGrassDimmer=1.3000 default

try changing to lower value like 1.1 or 1.0

What Textures pack are you using if any ?

Thanks, I'll give those ini changes a try. I am running:

QTP3 Redimized
Better Tiling 4096 LOD
Qarl's 4096 Normal Maps
Mikal33's Textures (Doors, Trees, Flora)
Brumbek's Sky
Enhanced Vegetation
Natural Habitat
Unique Landscape
HTF's #2 Noise Replacer

Outdoors, all HDR values are determined by the weather. The settings in the ini will have no effect. Generally it's not an issue except for sunny skies. I found the over all brightness to be way too high, so we corrected for it with All Natural. Those changes we made won't be released until 1.1 though.

Yes, and he did exactly what I mentioned to do. That's where I got the idea. But personally I felt he went too dark with his plants.

Ok, makes sense as I am running All Natural. I will wait for 1.1 then.

Upon further review, it is definitely the result of intense sunlight as Arthmoor stated. The midday sun is directly overhead of that patch of grass. For poops and giggles, I tried Luchaire's old no glow grass mod but can't say I like the results. I'll just wait for the arrival of All Natural 1.1.
