Nerevar

Post » Mon May 17, 2010 12:57 am

Okay, so I read this: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tamriel:The_Battle_of_Red_Mountain

The Nerevar and some other dudes went back to The Red Mountain to get the tools of Kagrenac, they got them, but Dagoth Ur escaped, then, later on, Azura punished the Dark Elves with a new outlook, and said that Nerevar would return...... heres what I wanna know, in what part of that text did the Nerevar dissapear, since Azura said he would RETURN, the text never said he dissapeared, thats what im wondering about.

Any help would be appriciated^^

Kind regards, Zanctillia^^

It was written by Vivec, so it's no wonder that Nerevar's death is glossed over.

Because (It is strongly hinted that) Vivec murdered Nerevar.

Hmmm, very interesting, it may sound like I don't know a [censored] and this is kinda old information I think, but, can you tell me more on this matter, maybe a link to some text on UESP that is about that matter, and why the heck would he kill Nerevar?

Check the Imperial Library also for various texts on the incident. The Tribunes almost certainly killed Nerevar, and so that they could use the Heart of Lorkhan to achieve apotheosis. But as others have pointed out about the Elder Scrolls series, its strength is in the (realistic) uncertainty of historical events, as in our world; there are many points of view, some contradicting each other.

Nerevar was like the "One Real Good Guy", he was down right determined to not let the tools get in the wrong hands, the Tribunes wanted the power of the Hearth, they had to kill Nerevar to get it. So thats like the story you put in between the two parts: 1 - When Nerevar took the tools from Dagoth Ur, and, 2 - When Azura punished the tribunes and it's race?

It's not a simple history, though; the Tribunes may have had good intentions, as they claimed. They can even be seen as following in the traditions of their people -- sanctified murder and intrigue. There is enough uncertainty about the incident that we can't judge it in black and white terms.

Some among the lore forum think that Azura should be seen as petty and spiteful for changing the Dunmer into their "ghoul-like" ashen skin and crimson eyes. I tend to fall into this camp, since she changed an entire race for the actions of the Tribunal. At his later (semi-canonical) Trial, Vivec takes revenge on Azura in a humiliatingly public way before leaving for Aetherius; the revenge was for the madness and deaths of Almalexia and Sotha Sil (indirect death in the case of the latter, but I'm digressing). (See "The Trial of Vivec" in the Imperial Library website.)

A better timeline:

1) Daggoth Ur discovers that Kagrenac is creating the Numidium.
2) Daggoth Ur tells Nerevar about it.
3) Nerevar consults the Dwemer king, Dumac, about it.
4) Dumac and Nerevar bicker and quarrel angrily over the issue.
5) The argument over the Numidium and the use of the heart leads to the Chimer/Dwemer war.
6) In the closing throws of the war, Kagrenac turns on the heart with his tools, and----

7a) All the dwemer disappear.

7b) The dwemer become part of the Numidium, it activates, and ALMSIVI defeats it, by stealing its godhood, through a mini-dragon break caused by their later apotheosis....

8) The tribunal and nerevar leave the tools in the posession of daggoth Ur, while they consult on what to do with them.
9) The tribunal wish to use the tools to better their people. nerevar objects, and has them swear on oath to Azura that they will not use the tools.
10) Nerevar and the Tribunal return to the heart chamber to find Daggoth Ur driven mad by the tools and the heart.

11a) Daggoth Ur kills Nerevar.
11b) Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil kill Nerevar after they and Nerevar drive off Daggoth Ur.

12) Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil use the tools on the heart to become immortal god-kings, and re-write the fabric of reality and history so that they have always been such. (See 7b)

13) Azura becomes FURIOUS with the Tribunal, for violating the oaths that Nerevar made then swear. In retort, The Tribunal mock Azura, and tell her that the Chimer do not need her as a goddess, because the chimer have THEM now.

14) Azura gets SERIOUSLY PISSED, and curses the Chimer race, transforming them into the Dunmer.

...and the Dunmer change spontaneously, like the Orsimer?

And I've always wondered whether all this happened in the the smoke and chaos of battle, or the final betrayal was drawn out over months or years.

11a) Daggoth Ur kills Nerevar.

???

How did you get that conclusion?
He could wounded him, but I highly doubt that he killed him. Aren't two hard fights in short time cause of Nerevar's drained/damaged health (in game mechanics jargon), a fact that Triunes had easily exploited?

I'm sorry for bad grammar, if any.

Ur was a strong sorceror, and if Nerevar was weakened from the battle then it would have been very easy to take him down with draining magicks.

But Vivec did kill him. With poisoned incense.

At what point in the timeline does Dagoth go to the Nords and become appointed a general alongside Wulfharth? :bolt:

The Ash King

The fourth song of King Wulfharth tells of his rebirth. The Dwarves and Devils of the eastern kingdoms had started to fight again, and the Nords hoped they might reclaim their ancient holdings there because of it. They planned an attack, but then gave up, knowing that they had no strong King to lead them. Then in walked the Devil of Dagoth, who swore he came in peace. Moreover, he told the Nords a wondrous thing: he knew where the Heart of Shor was! Long ago the Chief of the Gods had been killed by Elven giants, and they ripped out Shor's Heart and used it as a standard to strike fear into the Nords. This worked until Ysgramor Shouted Some Sense and the Nords fought back again. Knowing that they were going to lose eventually, the Elven giants hid the Heart of Shor so that the Nords might never have their God back. But here was the Devil of Dagoth with good news! The Dwarves and Devils of the eastern kingdom had his Heart, and this was the reason for their recent unrest. The Nords asked the Devil of Dagoth why he might betray his countrymer so, and he said that the Devils have betrayed each other since the beginning of time, and this was so, and so the Nords believed him. The Tongues sung Shor's ghost into the world again. Shor gathered an army as he did of old, and then he svcked in the long-strewn ashes of King Wulfharth and remade him, for he needed a good general. But the Devil of Dagoth petitioned to be that general, too, and he pointed out his role as the blessed harbinger of this holy war. So Shor had two generals, the Ash King and the Devil of Dagoth, and he marched on the eastern kingdoms with all the sons of Skyrim.
