Netbooks

Post » Thu Jul 28, 2011 4:26 pm

okay I am getting a dell inspiron mini 10. I am just wondering if a 250 gig harddrive and 1 gig of ram is gonna be enough to run oblivion and my mods on an external discdrive.

you guys know what to do, and this is also my first thread here, so if its not that great give me a break lol.

thanks

- Bruce :)

No. They have terrible graphics cards (i.e. integrated Intel ones), which won't run Oblivion even on the lowest settings. You will struggle to even run http://www.oldblivion.com/.

Even if you could run Oblivion, the heat generated alone would literally melt the plastic of the case and maybe the hardware.

Dont even try unless you can afford a new netbook.

If you must, then buy a notebook instead. Better yet, buy a desktop PC (with a decent enough GPU). Best of all, build your own desktop PC - this is actually a lot easier than you might think.

After all, most people who might be tempted with a notebook could probably get away with a tablet, or perhaps even just a smartphone, for such purposes, and then be left with a choice between console and PC for ("serious") gaming. Most, of course, opt for the console. Which, come to think of it, is another option...

AMD released a slew of low-current usage APUs ("Brazos") last winter that will be all over the retail shelves by now inside of Netbooks with a relatively advanced graphics component included, at least when compared to the Atom's elderly video chip, that might just about run Oblivion. Their "Llano" APU series for the Mid-Range in between Small Notebooks and regular laptops, come with one or the other of two integrated video components, both of which can run Oblivion. Those will be showing up on the retailers shelves soon, if not already available.

AMD calls its processors with graphics include4d APUs instead of CPUs; the overall name is "Fusion" for obvious reasons.

No, he's saying some models of netbooks could, theoretically run Oblivion. However the performance would be so low that it wouldn't be worth it, and yours won't run it to any usable standard I'm afraid.

Exactly. In the last 5-6 years, the assembly process for laptop type computers, including NetBooks, Notebooks, mini-Notebooks, etc has eliminated the older style of mobile computers, the last of which was sold under the Sager brand name. Those were designed for internal access, and it was possible for Sager to upgrade both the CPUs and the GPUs, other brands all long since dispensed with that option several years ago. The more common NetBook design has an Intel CPU and its separate Chipset video chip, and those are not interchangeable with the Brazos APUs from AMD.

No.
You can not (legally) mod anything for oblivion on the 360.

You can't replace the parts in a netbook, and you can't mod a console game. If you want to mod you'll need to buy a PC that's capable of playing the game. If you can't afford this then playing the game without mods on a console is the only option.

Okay, you install FCOM and a texture replacer on an Xbox. Give me a shout when you get that done. You're the one that's looking stupid, not me.

You cannot mod Oblivion on an xbox. Period.

There are some "NetTop" mini-PC system boards with a proper PCIe video slot that come with a CPU included for very small costs to which you could add a used graphics card from back when the game was new, for pocket change, very little more than that (eBay). The usual enclosures for these SFX boards don't have room for fullsize graphics cards, and the "Low Profile" cards with adequate performance are more difficult to find at t6he cheap prices, so a case for a mATX would be the best choice.

Okay, you come here asking for help of us. We tell you your notebook won't run the game, and that you can't mod the xbox version. You then try to make yourself sound like you know what you're talking about. I honestly don't care if you think you can mod the xbox as well as you can mod the PC. You can't, and not only that, but it's against Microsoft's EULA, and so can't be discussed here. You're digging yourself into a bigger and bigger hole.

EDIT: Wise choice editing out the information on xbox modification. Like I said we don't discuss that here.

And this is getting way off topic here. I have a perfectly decent computer that I'm able to mod and create mods on. We've explained your netbook won't run the game, and that "modding" (used loosely here) the xbox isn't to be discussed. If you want to be able to mod and create mods you'll need a computer. Like I said previously, if that isn't an option, then the vanilla console game is more than a great game by itself.
