Nether Regions

Has anyone ever wondered where undead come from in the TES universe? I mean you traveled to oblivion where daedra are summoned from, so how about we get to see the place necromancers get their fodder from? Not that I'm expecting the "river Nix" or anything but hey it would be cool

They are corpses animated by magic.

I'm pretty sure they don't come from anywhere special.

Yup, pretty much. I just hope we can actually reanimate dead things without a stupid staff this time.

But there's that purple circle above them, I mean conjuration well...conjures them! If that is the same as necromancy then...well its just confusing seeing as how necromancy is supposed to be illegal

I kinda wonder where random undead come from. Like the armless zombie at the very beginning of Oblivion. Surely some necromancer didn't just animate a body and leave it down there?

Undead creatures are creatures that have died, and have been resurrected by magic. Thus the term "undeath".

It does seem plausible that conjuration could reach realms other than only those experienced in Oblivion. The undead though... I mean the material is already in the mortal plane, you just will it to do stuff (at your own expense not another realm's, I assume).

What I'm saying is that that would be necromancy, which we haven't been able to use ourselves yet

Maybe theres some restrictions on reanimating dead things on Mundus(spelling?), but there arnt on other realms. Which is why we have to summon undead from elsewhere.

I'm not sure if you're aware of what "nether regions" is a euphemism for.

Are you purposely making these ambiguous titles? "Self Explorations" "Nether Regions"

edit- nvm you answered :)

Its only necromancy if your're making the undead yourself. If your summoning them form somewhere else then it's just summoning.

I think this is what you're asking:
We can summon daedra via Conjuration from the planes of oblivion, but we can also summon "undead" creatures. Where do those undead creatures come from, since they aren't daedra? Is that what you're asking?

You probably teleport a recently deceased to your side and animate magically.
That would explain that.

But thats just gameplay mechanics.
In lore, necromancers go through great lengths to procure material for their.. interests.
Think moonless nights, graveyards and a spade.
Bonewalkers are made via complicated tinkering with body parts and are as much animated flesh as constructs of wood, metal and wire.
Zombies are simpler, I believe, and are merely animated flesh.

Yeh I think thats it. Weve never actually reanimated anything ourselves, its always summoning them from somewhere.

Or maybe not... I mean reanimating would require summoning a soul from somewhere to put into the corpse. Or not, if were merely using the corpse as a meat puppet and controlling it ourselves. Hm.

The latter one.
An undead is controlled by the necromancers will, and has very little or none of its own.
Enough shades of memories perhaps to understand: kill everyone who passes here, or, get me that spade.

not all conjuration is from oblivion, especially -- lore wise -- among the more powerfull conjerers. It is very likely that when you summon an undead you are merely bringing it to you from another place on Nirn, most likely even in the provence. Maybe that's why every ancient dungeon was filled with undead: storage.

Undead comes from the ground maybe crypts, those doesn't sound all that interesting though...

But if you mean where the spirits of the dead reside, that would be Aetherius, but getting there wouldn't be easy, as last time we did it (in Daggerfall), we pretty much broke reality.

Oh yes, he did. There is a necromancer lair just outside of that dungeon, too...

Heheh. Nether Regions.
I thought this was going to be another nvde discussion....

Undead come from corpses. In OB the summoning spell's visuals just made it look like zombies and such come from somewhere else, when you would really just be reanimating corpses around you....

The undead have no realm, they are an abomination in the TES universe, Arkays existence is supposed to make such feats not possible and even Varmina I believe hates undead...and shes a Daedra, notice beyond Wormgod there are no facilitations or God of the undead. the Vortex you see is just for game play reasons, what are you going to do have a dead body on hand to conjure up? nope
