Networking help needed

Post » Tue Jun 24, 2014 12:59 am

I've moved recently so my gaming set up has changed. I now have the modem/router a foot away from my Xbox. I've read its better to have your box hard wired so I'm asking what kind of ethernet cable should I get? Or is this similar to an HDMI cable where quality doesnt really matter. I've seen some ethernet cables range from 5 buck to over a hundred at Best Buy.

I'd spend around 40 bucks if it mattered. Anyone have suggestions on this?

Get what works. I run a $15 ethernet cord that I bought in the college bookstore for my computer, works like a charm. Ethernet is ethernet, until you get to really advanced, high bandwidth usage.

Get any length Ethernet cable that you need. You can buy them anywhere (walmart, kmart, office depot etc etc) If there are two cables of the same length, get the one with the lower price.

However, what would be best is to put a router between your gaming console and the cable modem. No PC or other device should ever be connected directly to the Internet. A gaming console is probably safe thing to connect directly to the web, if that is all you want to do.
