Never let Obsidian make another Fallout!

Post » Fri Aug 13, 2010 12:18 am

Since I bought Fallout: New Vegas, the game has crashed, froze, and the quests have glitched out and most still cannot be completed. *cought*motorrunnershelmet*cough* Fallout 3 wasnt even this bad, and it had some nasty problems when it first came out, but they weren't nearly this bad. Now, considering FO3 was made entirely by Bethesda Studios, I can only place the blame for this horrendeously buggy game on the shoulders of the Obisdian staff. What the hell did they do? Program this game drunk off their asses? Mess up on purpose? Whatever their reason is, Bethesda, don't let Obsidian make another game, ever. Those developers may have been good years ago when some of the worked on the original fallouts, but whatever skill they HAD is long gone. Dont let them touch Fallout 4, please!

IMO, it has less to do with Obsidian and Bethesda than it does with the out-dated engine they are using to produce both FO3 and FO:NV.

I myself, have had little to no problems with either FO3 or FO:NV and found both games incredible. But I play both on PC and well.....

Sorry you're having problems.

Also, in B4 lock.

I didn't had any problems with New Vegas, and I think Obsidian did a [censored] spectacular job on a proper Fallout game.

So.... yes please, more Obsidian influence for F4. :fallout:

Well it was Bethesda who did QA and pushed the game out the door too soon.
I'd put at least half the blame on them.
But I haven't had too much problems with New Vegas, it's buggy, sure, but not unplayable.
So I vote for more Obsidian Fallout games in the future. :D

@Gabe- Obsidian can't test it's own product before giving it to QA at Beth? I'd say it's more 2/3 of the blame is on Obsidian.

But honestly, if I had to place a bet, I think alot of the reported (I say reported as I havent had half the problems mentioned) is that the Devs at Obsidian probably didnt have much skill with the Gamebryo engine.

I haven't had much problems as others seem to have. Then again I play on the 360, and I am having a blast with it.

If anything, this should teach you or anyone else a lesson. Make sure you do your research before buying and not buy right away.

Also didn't have any significant problems (even before the first patch).

More Obsidian Fallouts in the future for sure, though, next time let them use their own tech so they don't have to learn the quirks of other companies' engines.

I doubt we'll see the same issues with a new engine. I'm very curious about the Skyrim engine, hope it's more stable than Gamebryo. I also wish Obs had a little more time to test and fix stuff. I do love their characters and storylines though, so I'd like to see their work again in the future.

inb4lock, I guess.

I think my console crashed like twice since the latest patch. Even before then I didn't have many problems, at least no more than compared to other games I've played.

I've successfully played for 24 straight hours before (I had nothing to do, and a large pizza...lost track of time). So the crashes are based upon the individual machine in my view. OP, calm down, don't be like those WoW rage videos.

Thats not how things work, they finish the game then send it to Bethesda for QA, thats that, they don't do testing because thats not what they where hired to do.

I doubt this is true, I'm pretty sure Obsidian does play testing during development. However the release of a faulty product is Bethesda's fault alone, their QA department is supposed to ensure that the final build is satisfactory for release to the public. If the product is not adequate and it's released to the public anyway, then the fault lies with Bethesda's QA. This doesn't mean that Obsidian isn't to blame for anything of course, some of these reported bugs were things you'd have thought that the devs at Obsidian would have noticed during their own play testing.

I myself haven't had many problems with New Vegas, no more than I had with Fallout 3 anyway.

I don't see how this is relevant, Fallout New Vegas is still one of the best games ever made and a huge improvement over Fallout 3 in every area(perks, faction system, quests, map, region structure, skill allocation, progression, companions etc.etc.), nothing like it even exists...

Obsidian did a fantastic job, if you can't see that Fallout New Vegas is one of the best games ever made you really need to do intense training or buy implant for your intelligence attribute...

Obsidian should not make another Fallout, NV lacked the story telling 3 had. Yea you could use iron sights, and make [censored] from fires. It's not like put all the effort and creativity they could of into NV. To be honest it lacked alot

My wish is for Bethesda to purchase Obsidian. That way the guys at Obsidian, Josh, Chris, Larry, Scott, et. al. can keep making FO games, but they can get the in house programming support from the guys that are building the creation engine so the games will be more stabile.

I personally love the game, the only problems i have however are 2minute loading screens, equipment glitches, when dead money was first released a glitch that refused to let me leave the Sierra Madre after beating the dlc.
