Never played Morrowind before... advice?

First things first. I'm a TES fan, through and through. My introduction to the series was Oblivion. And I love the lore of TES.

So I've had Morrowind installed in my computer since Christmas, and I've been wanting to play it... but I'm not gong to lie. I've heard about the gameplay in comparison to Oblivion and Skyrim. And I feel that Skyrim has literally spoiled me. Not to mention the stark graphical difference.

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for here, but anyone got any advice to "get me in the mood"? I was thinking of slowly getting into it, by playing another run-though of Oblivion to get use to the graphical downgrade and such. Do you guys have any advice? I'm especially interested in those who Morrowind wasn't their first and how their experience was.

Also, for PC users: If you have any combat and graphic mods that you'd recommend, do share.

Well its a much slower paced game in my opinion, at least in the beginning. You have to play carefully in order to be successful. I always felt in Oblivion and Skyrim vanilla that you can just go about your business however you want without much worry of getting killed. In Morrowind you will often run into things either in the wild or in caves and dungeons that can and will easily kill you.

I just read your Skyrim character backstory on the other thread and obviously it helps to be someone who is thoughtful of their characters and also has some roleplay elements while playing. It helps manage the speed of the game.

Obviously combat is one of the biggest things to get used to with the Dice roll style system. You can try and see if you like it but I know a lot of people who prefer the always hit action of Oblivion or Skyrim I know there is, or when I last played was, a mod that makes every attack hit.

I haven't played recently enough or delved into the huge mod archive to know what to really suggest but I do know there are some overhaul mods out that really change the game. I'd recommend looking at the mod forum here though and maybe seeing if anyone else asked for suggestions and was in a similar situation coming from the newer titles.

Good luck and enjoy Morrowind!

Well first thing you want http://www.ornitocopter.net/v3-0-release/ It improves the graphics and sounds. Also it adds fixes to the general game. Morrowind is a much more slower paced game than Oblivion and Skyrim. I suggest you speak to every npc in the starting town, they give you valuable information. The combat at first is atrocious, but once you begin to level up in your chosen weapon style, the combat improves. The number 1 complaint all newcomers have is "why can't I hit anything?" The key is the character has to have the necessary skill level in order to land successful hits. In Oblivion and Skyrim you can be a master of multiple weapon styles. In MW this is not possible. I suggest picking your main method of attack as a major skill, usually that skill will have atleast a value of 30, meaning you'll be able to hit more. Talking about skills you have Major skills, Minor skills and misc skills. Major skills level up the fastest and are usually the ones you use the most. Minor skills level up at a more moderate pace. Misc skills hardly ever level up, since you don't use them often. So my advice is make a custom race and add the skills you are going to use most as major skills. Be warned though you can only choose 5.

Factions: In Morrowind you cannot be master of all guilds. Each guild requires you to meet a set of requirements. If you do not meet these requirements you will not be able to join. So that means no pure warrior being Archmage, and master thief.

Also their are three Great Houses, these houses are the ones with all the power in Morrowind. You can only join one in each game. There are Redoran (warriors), Telvanni (Mages) and Hlaalu (diplomats/con men). Again in order to join them you have to meet their requirements.

That's all I can think of. If you need more assistance feel free to ask.
