I've Never...

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:51 pm

I've never had an OB game get past Level 14 or so. Whenever minotaurs and land dreughs and glass-wearing bandits show up everywhere, that's as high as I've leveled. The way the entire world just completely changes and stuff was a gamebreaker for me personally. :brokencomputer:

DB quest line. I've never managed to create a character that I liked enough to play, who would still do what's required in that quest line. I've played thieves and pirates, but I find that I just don't like cold-blooded murderers.

Same here. Arum was created to do the dark brotherhood questline, then he showed me his true personality and I was forced to admit to myself that I'll never be able to force a character to do something. I didn't even get halfway through the questline. Arum's a Knight of the Nine now. Suits him so much better than that horrible shrouded armour ever did.

This was also my biggest "I never", and my rationale was the same as you stated. My first character Azreal retired as Arch Mage, Champion of Cyrodil and KOTN Commander and refused to touch the quest line. However, my 2nd character has accepted the quest line and is currently at the eliminator rank. Her intention is to bring down the DB. Now, I have never noticed any threads about this, and have no illusions that I could actually pull this off, but she intends to rise as far in the db as she can and to take out as many of these clowns as she can get away with. No DID. She considers it R&D and will experiment with as many potential ways to do it as needed. She is willing to sacrifice "this life" over it, as preparation for the "next life" in Skyrim. She has no problems utilizing whatever tactics are needed in order to accomplish what she considers a "greater good." To weave in another thread.. Yes, she kept the wrist irons, and enchanted them to boost her atronach spell absorption. They also make a straight forward fashion statement about where she is commin from. I have several "I never's" in Oblivion, but this was the largest, and I intend to resolve it prior to 11/11.

... I also never completed Sheo′s quest and I never stole or even bothered finding out where the fisherman in Weye kept his money.

I've done the Sheogorath questline - it's unsavory in parts, but it is Shivering Isles. So some characters are okay with it, and others not.

But I've never robbed or killed the Fisherman in Weye or asked about where is money is.

Actually I meant his quest in Oblivion, but I′ve never done his quest in Shivering Isles either

I'm quite surprise about how many of you haven't completed the basic faction questlines or even the main quest! After reading this thread, I think the only thing I haven't done in Oblivion is complete the Nirnroot quest, and even that I've done the vast majority of. I feel like there's pretty much nothing I haven't done.

Really? With the creativity you show in your characters, I'm a little surprised you haven't found a way for a character to be a Dark Brotherhood member without being a cold-blooded murderer.

But can you be a DB member without being a cold-blooded murderer?

Oh yeah, I′ve never finished any guild questline or the main questline either. Come to think of it, there are many many more quests I haven′t done or completed. Too many to list here

I create characters who interest me. I spend considerable time with them. Why would I want to waste my time on a character I disliked?

DB Assassins are "cold-blooded murderers." L.L. actually says so, when you "meet him" the first time. There really isn't any way to twist it around to make it be something else.

Yea, me too. I've started the quest several times, made it to the part where
Spoiler
Sindareon can brew the first batch of potions for us,
but by that time, all of my characters who've started the quest so far either have light or night-vision spells, negating the need for Sindareon's brews.

That is something of interest, though. Maybe he starts making some really fantastic things as the questline goes on, and I'm just too impatient to deal with fetching stuff for him.

 I dislike Eradi~Kate, tell you the truth. Just http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad208/xenaclone/view.jpg. Yea, she's cute and all, but something about her eyes...that I can't just trust. :nope:

That being said, I like being with her, I like adventuring with her, but I don't like her at all as a "person". And actually, now that she's a vampire, she's not even cute anymore.

I have never played a Khajiit. The hairstyles just underwhelm me so much that I could not bring myself to do it. Plus I have never liked how Bethesda incorporates the tails of Khajiit and Argonians into clothing. As in not at all, and instead you just have a tail sticking out of a pair of pants or a skirt.

I have seen King Coin using one of the Corean Hairs for his character Aravi, and she looks very good. So I think what I will do at some point is have a go at doing that. At the same time I will probably make her an unarmed character, as I found a few mods that make unarmed combat more interesting.

I've never...* Been to Shivering Isles.* Done any Dark Brotherhood quests.* Done any Mages Guild quests.* Done any Thieves Guild quests.* Done any Daedric shrine quests.* Done any DLC quests, including Knights of the Nine.* Done most of the city-based side-quests.* Finished the Arena quests.

Psssst.... You're doing it wrong. (j/k)

Except for the part where they're probably the most warm and welcoming bunch of guildmates a person could ask for. My previous characters loved going to see them after an assignment to get a friendly reception and some stories about their past escapades. I'd planned on doing the same with my current av but she had other ideas. Weird how they sort of take on a life of their own sometimes.

Hmmm, things I've never done in Oblivion... Let's see...

I've never:

purchased a horse.

used horse armor.

bought every house.

consumed skooma.

drowned (although I've come close a few times).

fought a mudcrab more fearsome than me.

moved like a pregnant cow (at least, I don't think I have).

been robbed by a highwayman (first they try, then they die).

jumped on anyone's sword. (bandits are rather fond of telling me to do this, even when they're using bows or blunt weapons. Wait..."sword". That's just sick. :yuck: )

been fond of the Adoring Fan (Stop pestering me, runt! And take that stupid gold ice-cream cone off of your head! Wait, that's your hair?! Oh, by the Nine! Just go jump off Dive Rock!).

thought Glarthir was even remotely sane.

Well, Miss Piggy looks better with lipstick, too. ;)

And that is the very wonderful thing about this game, that keeps me coming back. Who knows...maybe one of my characters will eventually take me down that DB path... :)

Exactly. There are always ways to twist things around, and what Penguin Dreams mentions is exactly what I was thinking of as an example of how a DB member could be part of the DB without being cold-blooded. Perhaps they are an outcast with a rough upbringing, and through some accident or some unfortunate turn of events, they end up murdering someone. Next thing you know, they get greeted by the Dark Brotherhood, and, for the first time in this character's life, the character gets accepted by a group of people. The character finds the idea of intentional murder to be wrong and terrible, but simply cannot resist the sense of kinship and affection promised to him/her by the DB, and so he/she continues to complete tasks. This mindset would also cause some very interesting situations, and considering how you can choose to complete a contract with a special stipulation or just run in fireballs-a-blazin, there are a lot of options as to how this character would go about their distasteful tasks.

There's loads I've not done in Oblivion...

Never found the unicorn
Never did the quest where you have to get all the Daedric Artifacts for the dude in the IC
Never played as a beast character
Never played dead is dead
Never stolen a horse
Never gone on a giant killing spree
Never got full support from all cities in the MQ - just seemed like too many damn gates to close ;)
Never taken AF to Dive Rock and shot him off

There's probably more though. I've done all the quest lines that I know of (although I have a vague memory of there being one to do with collecting slaughterfish scales that I didn't do?) But I've got a LOT of hours racked up in Cyrodill. Too many.

Yes, you can rationalize your way to "up is down."

Maybe it would help if I found anything at all to like about Lucien Lachance. I find him the most unlikable character in the entire game. He's smarmy and presumptuous. There's nothing "warm" or "inviting" about him at all. I realize that some people don't see him that way, and those people are what I would call "wrong."

This is probably an "age thing." I'm an "old gamer." I have a lot more "life experience" than a lot of other TES players, and that experience affects the way we judge characters. L.L. probably comes across as a lot more admirable and friendly to younger people.

Anyway, it's an area of the game that doesn't suit me. Assassination is a Dirty Word to people who remember the 1960s. You'd have to put an awful lot of lipstick on the pig to convince me.

I have never:

  • Played as a character that wasn't primarily mage
  • Completed the Fighter's Guild quest line
  • Made an evil character (though I did complete the DB quest line when playing neutral)
  • Bothered to level: Marksman, Blunt, Speechcraft, Mercantile, or Security
  • Completed all the daedric shrine quests
  • Played a character who doesn't use heavy armour
  • Played as an Orc, Argonian, Bosmer, Redguard, Imperial or Khajit

Will try to get round to some of these in my new playthrough - a Dunmer thief/mage combo chaotic evil character. Bretons are still the best though :)

- Completed helping with Mirili Ulven's Reaserch
- Completed The Hill of Suicides

I can't believe how many people haven't done the DB questline. It's the best in the game, in my opinion. Sure, the thieves guild has a bigger finish, the mages guild has better perks, the fighter's guild has that one quest... but for all-around awesome, DB wins. Every time. Story's brilliant, quests are fun, and the atmosphere is unparalleled. You don't even need to be an evil character to do it. Most if not all of your contracts are either evil or simply jerks.
