New American Idol

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 11:38 pm

I have waited for a bit to see if anyone would comment on the new American Idol. I have been watching it for the last few years, and yeah it was going down hill. I thought this season was going
to be a disaster. I am shocked, I actually enjoy it. I like Steven Tylor and Jennifer Lopez as jugdes. I thought they were going to be a joke, but I am impressed by them. They have a charisma
between the 3 that has been missing for a while on the show.

Also, they are not dragging on the audtions, which I believe also helps as well, so they lernt a thing or two.

So what are your opnions of this seasons of American Idol season 10?

Most people lost faith in the show after last season. I think it's on its last legs.

As long as this isn't strictly a hug-fest for American Idol then I'll express my opinion;

I watched half of an episode maybe four years ago. Minute 29 I was close to going Tyler Durden on my ass, saved of course by the fact I was in the home of someone else.

Personally I just don't get the allure, but to each his own.

Never liked the show, though I do understand why so many people do. A lot, not all, but a lot of people fade out of existence soon after the show. Besides, never liked any of the music the people who do make it come out with anyway, so yeah. I did hear however that Steven Tyler is funny, and is bringing a needed edge to the show, so props to the producers for actually changing things up after only ten years.

I've watched an episode or two, I loved Steven Tyler as a judge, now if they could only get Randy's [censored] off the show.

I like playing "guess the tragic backstory" with the contestants.
And I'm eternally grateful that Paula Abdul isn't on the show anymore - the new judges are much better.

Its been going on for ten years, its stale. That and it just plain old fashioned doesn't work. In the early days yeah, they did achieve fame. Now however I bet no one could remember the winner from just a few years ago. A winner from American Idol gets ten minutes of fame and thats it. I can only remember two winners and thats Gareth Gates and Cheryl Cole from Girls Aloud who now helps host X factor, a clone of American Idol.

The last 2 seasons of American Idol is a joke. There is no way the winners should have won. But oh well this is what you get when you get the fans to vote. The problem with these shows is, it's not how Good you are but how Popular you really are.

I find it funny that the people who don't win it actually become more successfull than the winners.

Yes it was stale, so they are trying to do something to make it refreshing. We have to see if it works and so far it is working. You say it doesn't work. It does work. Yes people are forgotten and I can't rememeber the who won the last two seasons because they didn't deserve to win, the show is not for making people famous. While it may not be the number one show it use to be it is still in the top 10. While it may not have 30 million viewers it once had, it still has over 5 million viewers which alot of TV shows wish they could have those ratings. So yes it still works. It depends on how you view what is a success. The show is to get ratings and be watch on TV not to make someone famous. Just like X factor. It's not to make someone famous but to get you to watch the show.

So far haven't seen X factor, since it's not aired in North America yet. Looking forward to it though.

...Season 10? Really? I thought it was somewhere around 5. Where have I been?

I stopped watching a while ago. All I know now is that the people who win normally fade out of existence, and that one of the losers in the top 5 or so normally come out to be popular for even longer than the winner. If that made any sense?

But I dunno. I've heard good things about the new judges.

I used to like it. I watched the first episode for this new season and didn't like it.
Not enough attention on the bad singers. it was not as funny. I don't like the new judges.

This is why I think I like the new season so much more. They are not trying to make it a joke fest like before, espically with Simon. Yes we get a few bad singers, a few jokesters, but we get to see some talent.
I also like it's not like a month of jokefest. It's what 2 weeks and now they are fighting for thier lives. So I guess the live shows start next week or two. Good brisk pace, I like it alot better now.

I didn't watch AI/ get into it until season 7, watched it off and on since. Last year was terrible. Tried watching the first couple audition shows this year, and while it was ok, without Simon it was just another boring talent show. I haven't turned it on since. Might try it after auditions a bit again, but probably not.

I like Mr. Tyler, btw....but he's no Simon.

This. The only reason I watched Idol was to see the (possibly staged) hilariously bad performances. If they're focusing less on that this time, then I care even less.

Seriously, THIS is the thread I post on for the first time in however long? Oh well.

I really though I was going to hate JLo, but so far I've been really enjoying both her and Steven Tyler as judges. I also agree that things have been nice and smooth so far this year - I will happily watch three weeks of auditions with the occasional ridiculouslness thrown in, whereas I have no interest in watching a month's worth of humiliation. But still, I'm definitely excited to be moving into Hollywood week.

I agree that last season (while I actually did enjoy both Lee and Crystal) was pretty boring, but anyone who didn't like Season 8 (who doesn't hate Idol just on principle) is on crack. Adam Lambert is one of the biggest new pop stars of the last couple of years (and amazing in concert, I am totally happy to admit) and while Kris Allen may not have quite the same star power, I don't think he in any way DIDN'T deserve the win - not to say he necessarily was the best choice, but he was a very good one.

So yeah, I'm coming out here as fan, specifically of Season 8's boys (and girls! Allison!) but of the show in general. Should I be ducking and hiding? ;)

X factor, a clone of American Idol.

Techinally it's a clone of Pop Idol which American Idol is also cloned from.

I hate myself for knowing that.
I haven't watch these "reality" TV shows for years. They get stale pretty quick.

Nobody's talking about it because that show's pretty much finished. I never even really liked it too much, I just watched it (especially auditions lol) for conversation.

I agree with you prettyburn. Season 8 was great. I wanted either Allison or Adam to win. Adam has an amazing voice. I was really hoping he would have whent with Queen on tour. I wanted to see that. Maybe he got a bit full of himself and he thought he could do better without them. Not sure what happened there.

I didn't think I was going to like Jennifer Lopez or Steven Tyler, I thought they would think they were too good. They are really humble. Well at least on TV they are humble, and funny when they need to be. Really refreshing espically over Ellen DeGeneress. (sp)

Looking forward to Hollywood week. I am shocked how bad some of the people were on that show. I am thinking how did they get to Hollywood in the first place.
