New PC and only 30 fps?

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 6:27 pm

Just built a some what new PC and I only get 30 - 50 max FPS? **EDIT*** I get 30-50 FPS on High and 29-45 on Very High and 30-40 FPS on Extreme IT SEEM VERY LAGGY AT 30 - 40 FPS!
Specs:

AMD 955BE OC 3.65GHz (Never breaks 50c full load)

4GB G.Skill 1333 8-8-8-24

EVGA 9800GTX+ 1GB Superclocked (Drivers 266.58 and temps never go above 61c full load) **EDIT** I said some what new since some morons missed that part...

Windows Vista 32bit

120GB 7200RPM HDD with Windows installed and a 320GB 7200RPM HDD with my games installed on it.

Is my system not good or something? I run WoW max 60FPS, DA:O 1 and 2 max 60FPS, Arma 2 OA on high with 50FPS and Crysis 1 on Very High 60fps.

How did you end up with a 9800 if your system is new (and why would you buy a superclocked if you know how to overclock it yourself)? Anything running in the background? Anyways, I would consider anything over 40 to be perfectly fine as far as playability goes, you shouldnt worry about it.

I said some what new... I didn't have enough to buy a new GPU and I got the 1GB Superclocked version from EVGAs RMA and since my 9800GTX+ 512MB SSC went bad the RMA says they give you something equal or better.

sternmin8or poses a very good question. How DID you end up with a 9800 in a new rig? They have been out of production for a good while now, at least a year :P To prove the point, there have been 3 successive generations since then. 200 series in 2008-09, 400 series in 2010 and the 500 series for this year 2011.

While it's a good card, those performance figures make perfect sense and aren't too bad at all!

What you should do (assuming you have a little cash): buy a 400 or 500 series and use the 9800 as a physx.

Yea 9800 is too low unless you're playing on lowest with AA + AF off.
I have 8800gt and that's what I play with. 5870 on the way though :DDDD

gtx 460 should be good, very reasonable price to performance.

the 8x as long it is pcie gen2 is fine for most video cards, and I believe Physx will still work on an AMD chipset, not sure if it will work out of the box or you have to use hacked drivers, but some people on other forums have said that It does work.

I was thinking about getting 2 460s instead of my 570, but then I realized that that meant the best I was going to do with my system before I had to replace a card would be 3 460s in sli and some other dedicated physx card (quad sli is almost useless in my opinion). Think about it, you can only go down or stay the same in card models once you have 2 of them.

Edit: Well, you are kind of in a sinkhole now. You can play and all, but as far as upgrading goes, you cant go far. That is why I always spend the most (relative) cash on my motherboard.

LOL, 9800 GTX.

Even my laptop has a newer card than that.

Newer, sure. Better...I doubt it. Don't LOL at an old desktop card or I release my old 6800 Ultra and we'll see who laughs xD

And you'll be a happy gamer! Some advice...you have 955BE, a 64 bit native processor on Vista32...you're wasting a lot of performance...upgrade to W764(Windows 7 64 bits). Better performance+MUCH better compatibility.

Approves of and seconds the Windows 7 64bit recommendation to OP. Windows 7 ish awesome!

Make that thirds, also I would recommend professional edition because RDP (combined with WOL(however failed a protocol it is) hosting alone is worth it if you have a capable mobile device (smartphone/laptop(preferred))

Relax guys, I play with a 8800gt system from 3 years ago. With Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz
Still runs Crysis 2 Single+multiplayer all maps on 40-50 fps on low settings with AA + AF off.

Unlike most people here, to me it's not really about the graphics but rather choking the sht out of people from behind in stealth mode.

However, from the excitement of waiting for Battlefield 3 to come out, I'm finally getting an upgrade.

Ok thanks guys! Since I'm low on cash I'll buy the 460 GTX and then see if that thing works where you can download a 64 bit version of your OS and just enter the key for your 32 bit OS.
