New Archer having troubles ...

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:29 am

Started out first game as an archer ... points high in marksman, agility and similar stuff ... sometimes I hit, sometimes I miss, ok, but recently there was this little Kwama forager svcker, right in front of my feet - fired away about a dozen arrows point blank - guess what - none hit ... WTF???

Is there a mod that adds a little more realism to accuracy? I understand that hitting a drunk cliffracer 500 ft above me isn't a piece of cake, but a worm that's practically right in my face?

Thanks!

:twirl:

Uh, btw, if there is such a mod, would be great if it were compatible with GCD!

I don't know the exact mechanic behind this but marksman weapons lose A LOT of accuracy when firing at "point blank" (which makes perfect sense as far as bows are concerned). This goes for NPC too, mincing an archer with a Daedric Bow in meelee is childs play. The simplest solution is shooting while moving or jumping back (just mind your fatigue level).

Well, maybe so, still, you probably shouldn't MISS a target that's standing right in front of you ... and certainly not 12 times in a row - when playing an archer ... :ahhh:

Actually, you should. If an opponent wielding a warhammer is standing close enough to knock the arrow off your bow or just throw off your aim then you shouldn't hit them at all. Hitting a melee opponent with an arrow who is close enough to strike your bow is not plausible at all.

If you ever shot a real bow you'll understand. Good bows take some strength to pull back, so imagine trying shoot a hammer wielding barbarian in front of you real fast with a 45 pound(Or more)bow. You would be both nervous(About the barbarian) and tired from shooting the bow so many times.(Which will through off your accuracy)

I believe this argument has been settled.

Yes it is settled. You are talking [censored] ... a Kwama forager certainly is neither swinging ANYTHING that would scare me or move my bow NOR am I nervous about that little bug ... hell, it's not even moving parts of the time ... otoh I can hit the bad wizard 100 ft away three times out of five.

To answer the OP with realism arguments set aside, in-game if you must use a bow in point-blank range then aim to the left of your intended target since your character carries a bow in their right hand. Otherwise any arrows you let loose will continue to pass by your target harmlessly. You'll eventually find the sweet spot.

And no there is no mod for this AFIAK.

Also, you have to remember that while the game graphics may show the characters just standing in front of each other taking turns hitting each other, that's an abstraction. In the actual game world with melee fight with a Kwama Forager neither you nor the enemy would be just standing there taking blows (which is why the hit-miss system in general is usually more realistic than Oblivion's always-hit system). Try and imagine what it'd be like if Kwama Foragers were real and you fought them in the real world. There's way in hell you're going to be able to aim a shot at something that fast in melee range moreso with your character ostensibly still trying to evade attacks, parry, dodge, or whatever (and particularly with the enemy doing the same).

Certainly, but what I SEE is all the info that's available, so I have to play by it ... even if it's unrealistic ...
