[Feedback] New Armor (parts) feature

Post » Tue Dec 08, 2015 12:03 pm

The new armor feature lets you wear a base outfit and then wear several pieces of armor over it like pads. Prior to playing the game this sounded great. But after playing for a while I started to wonder something. Well actually a couple of things.

While it is cool that this lets you mix and match armor sets it feels clunky and unintuitive. It also restricts a player's fashion sense. Wouldn't a system that has pant, shirt, shoes, gloves, helmet, eyes and face slots be more intuitive and offer a greater amount of flexibility. Both within the existing game and for the modding community? You could have still had full outfits that use multiple body slots like vault jumpsuits. You could still upgrade individual pieces. But players and NPCs would potentially have a lot more visual variety. Maybe even still have layers like a shirt layer and a jacket layer.

Also, does anyone else want an added feature where you can favorite and hotkey multiple outfits? With all of the armor pads I've found switching into civilian clothing to shop and converse for charisma bonuses, then swapping all my armor and pads back in to be a pain.

What do others think? Any other thoughts?

I like the way it is in the game, with the exception that I would like a "overcoat / cloak" slot, just for the cool factor.

I agree that being able to hotkey, favorite, or combine armor pieces into a loadout would be nice. Perhaps it will get patched or modded in. Until then, you can always rename your armor pieces into "Awesome armor piece 1, Awesome armor piece 2, etc. to keep them at the top of your inventory and make switching between armor and civilian clothes easier.

I think that any hot-keying of outfits would bypass the assumed task of taking them off, or putting them on. How would that [instant?] transition work?

I think that if it isn't already, that outfit changes should definitely be restricted to outside of active combat; unless it expends APS, and/or has an animation for it..
