New Armor System in TES V?

What do you think? I liked OB's system, yet it could use more. Armor is the only thing between you and certain death (with unarmored being the exception).

Whereas I like some modifications made to combat in Oblivion, armor is one thing that I want completely reverted back to Morrowind-style. More components to a full suit overall (maybe individual pauldrons was overkill, but I'd still like them to return), the ability to mix and match pieces again, and overall more variety. Hoping there will be lots of unique helmets and the like too! It's always nice to have that extra degree of customization and distinction there for the player who goes out of their way to explore.

EDIT: Oh! On the topic of aesthetics, would be nice if you could wear some pieces of clothing over armor, like in Daggerfall. I think it only applied to greaves, but still.

All they have to do to fix armor is make it like Morrowind, you could wear a full suit of armor, a full outfit, AND a robe all at the same time. It is a single player game, let me customize my appearance for crying out loud!

Also, they need to remove the stupid cap on the armor rating.

Same here. I loved the leather bracers in MW but in OB they looked like leather blocks on the wrist. Take Vivec for example. He had a Chitin and a Bonemold pauldron. What about making your own armor? You start out making leather bracers then you move on to a helm so on and so forth. Nothing too extreme though.

I think that different armors should have different numbers of components (for example, chainmail shouldn't have seperate pauldrons). And perhaps a penalty for wearing mismatched pieces.

As for Light, Medium, and Heavy, I think that it's best to keep it at two ends, Light and Heavy. The skills make more sense that way.

Yea the whole Medium armour threw me off the first time I played MW. Say a Blade could do more damage to chainmail then a hammer with a good thrust of a sword you could get between the rings. Yet a big enough swing with a hammer could knock some one on their knees.

2 types of armor. Heavy and Light. 3 armor skills, Heavy, Light, and Medium. Medium let's you combine heavy and light (or wear full suits of either) with no penalties. You would then not receive bonus for either.

I would prefer if they got rid of the weight classification altogether. They should divide it up by type; Cloth, Leather, Mail, and Plate.

I'm actually quite partial to this too. I think dividing armor into three classifications was a bit much in Morrowind, most notably I'd say many were disappointed at the dearth of Light Armor sets.

What about over-lay? Say chain-mail under plate? Or leather under plate sorta like the robes in MW.

Interesting idea, seperating armor into inner and outer parts. Again, I'd like it if there would be some sort of penalty if the armor plates are not affixed to corresponding underlays though. Like connecting Daedric pauldrons to a leather cuirass.

I really do wish they gave you the option of wearing clothes under your armour. Not in the sense that the clothes add HP to your AC but for the role playing. For that matter Robes too. That was one of the biggest things i fell in love with in MW. Id always have the brown robe with the hood on it on at all times.
Think of NPC wearing a plain gray cloak running to attack you and you don't know if he has chitin or glass under it.

With the robe idea you can't have another type of armour on with the exception of say boots, helms/hoods or gloves/gauntlets.

Even so, I'd like for there to be some sort of penalty for wearing a robe over armor, to balance it out. Depending on the weight of the armor, preferably. I don't want to be told that I'd be better off putting robes over my warrior's menacing Daedric armor.

This is a topic that I just can't see why anyone wouldn't like Morrowind's system, or a similar system more. The lack of customization in regards to clothing and armor is something I really didn't like in Oblivion. And that's not coming from someone who hates Oblivion and thinks Morrowind is infinitely better (although I do like it a lot more), either. I want to be able to mix and match those pauldrons and guantlets again. I want to be able to wear clothing under my armor, and leave one pauldron and off to get that cool 'asymmetric' look. I want to wear robes over my armor again. Etc.

I really like the morrowind style as well. I even loved the Throwing stars those where fun when you make a character with about 200 acrobatics and jumped everywhere throwing stars at everything lol.

Personally, I hated the Oblivion system, and liked Morrowind's setting much better. I hated how I couldn't wear clothes under my armor, preventing me from making super characters, which could have enchants on their clothing, accessories, and armor. If I were to choose how things were done, I would have these slots for equipped gear:

1Head slot
2Shoulder slots
1Cuirass slot
2Hand slots
1Belt slot
1Greaves slot
1Feet slot
1Back slot(Cloaks, capes, etc.)
1Robe slot
1Shirt slot
1Pants slot
1Necklace slot
4Ring slots
2Earring slots
2Bracelet slots
1Arrow slot
1Main Hand slot(Holds 1handed or 2handed weapon)
1Off Hand slot(Holds Shield, or 1 handed weapon)

Is it a lot? yes. But it's more realistic that way. Of course all the items could be enchanted, which could make for a really powerful character, but I propose that at high levels, players should be fighting monsters that would normally be way beyond their skills, leaving it balanced.

I don't think anyone is a fan of dumbing down game mechanics for no reason. Morrowinds style of 1 slot per item for every individual piece was fun, creative, and opened so much more up to your character.
I'd like that back.

Perhaps you could put a robe either under OR over your armor: I like to play a character that looks weak, but is a really good Mage or fighter. When I play a theif, I try and make my character look tough.

I want Daggerfall's armor system back. It is like Morrowind's, but clothing in that game can sometimes be changed to a slightly different style by clicking on it. I like that feature. I want to wear clothing, (many different pieces of)armor, and a cape all at once while being able to change how I wear some of the clothing and the cape.
