GM- evlbastrd
Co-gm- Lt. Andronicus
Many of you might remember the "Eastern Expedition" roleplay that existed awhile back in which evlbastrd was the GM. Some of you also particupated in it yourself. Those of you that did probably remember it as a great RP. It had good characters and evlbastrd came up with a creative and imaginative storyline which kept our interest.
Unfortunately, the RP was cut short due to real life issues, and this thread will serve as an interest thread for a sequel to the "Eastern Expedition" and will feature (probably) some of the same characters from the previous RP. However to be clear, if you want to join in and haven't been a part of the previous RP, that isn't going to matter at all. Anything you will need to know will be pretty obvious, and whatever else we are all going to learn in the course of the RP. Since the Eastern Expedition was cut short, we're all pretty much in the same boat in terms of figuring out what happened.
That said, "New Arroyo War" RP will take place following the end of the Eastern Expedition, when the main group has returned from their trek across the lands of the former United States. The story to the eastern expedition (so far) follows thusly:

THE EASTERN EXPEDITION:
THE ROAD SO FAR….(cue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQru7oCdYXA)
The EASTERN expedition setting wise takes place following the events of the original American Convention (the original mind you, not the one currently taking place now). However the details of what occurred during this convention is rather irrelevant to the overall story at this point.
What is important is this: In the months following the conventions end, virtually all contact with the Midwest and EASTERN nations (MWBOS, Legion, Enclave, CWBOS) was lost. Becoming concerned with this development, a small expeditionary force from the NCR was sent east to scout the situation. Nothing was heard from this group until stragglers from the expedition returned battered and near death, babbling incoherently about death and terror only waiting in the east. A second group had been launched by the western Brotherhood and commanded by the Head Elder’s son, however this group too never returned.
Resolved to discover the source of this terror: Mr. House, NCR President Winters, and Western Brotherhood Head Elder Horatio Duke, came together in order to fund a new joint expedition to the east. Those who were chosen to take part in this expedition included the grandson of President Winters, the daughter of Elder Duke, Head Paladin Alan Burns, Dr. Alice Swift of the Followers, Jason Vargas of the Khans, and several other individuals (including NPC characters). In preparation for the journey, the group was sent to the Western Brotherhood for intense training for nearly a month.
At the same time this group was in training, the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel was also stirred into action. Unlike the west, they know full well what had befallen their lands. A great plague which could only be described as a biological attack has descended upon their people. The virus, called “the plague” or alternatively “the parasite” by those of the Midwest, quickly swept over and brought death and destruction to the Midwest and the lands beyond. The plague contains the horrible tendency to transform its victims into a state of terrible mutation, and the need to fulfill the primal urges to kill and feed. Ghouls, super-mutants, and humans all befell this terrible plague, which bypassed all manner of Brotherhood quarantine efforts. Devastated, the Brotherhood retreated to fortified strongholds and underground bunkers. General Simon Barnaky, leader of the Midwest thus sent out an expedition (known as Gamma Squad) to discover however far the plague had spread. When Gamma Squad was not heard from again, the worst was feared.
In light of this, Barnaky ordered one of his most trusted servants, High Inquisitor William Traven, to take a small group westwards to discover what happened to Gamma Squad. Traveling along with Traven was one of Traven’s Inquisitors, Robert Praxx as well as two Paladin bodyguards, Hobbes and Colsten. Their travels were cut short however, when the Hellion aircraft carrying the group malfunctioned somewhere over Montana and suddenly exploded. Traven and Paladin Hobbes were able to eject from the craft before it blew up and landed unharmed, however the whereabouts of Praxx and Colsten or even if they are still alive, are unknown. As Traven and Hobbes landed however, they were attacked by some sort of creature which appeared to be a mutated human. After they killed the creature, they were saddened to discover that it was formerly a Midwestern soldier.
Thus, Traven and Hobbes journeyed separately westwards, in order to find the last known location of Gamma Squad. Along the way, they encountered a group of intelligent deathclaws and eventually came to the small town of “Rest Stop”. Which was founded following the fall of the Oil Rig by a group of remnant Enclave soldiers. Here they met the town’s mayor (a former Enclave soldier) and where Traven warned the town of the plague (which they had not yet encountered). At Rest Stop, Traven and Hobbes also learned that hunters from Rest Stop had discovered bloodied pieces of Midwestern Power, thus discovering the fate of Gamma Squad.
As this was going on, the expedition from the west had been launched following the end of their training. When they were packed and ready, the group members had been transported by truck to a road in Montana, the I-90. Following this road, they eventually came to a shack in the woods and came upon an old man who identified himself as “Enclave Jed,” an individual who had been one of the founding members of Rest Stop but had left to live on his own. After staying with Jed for a time and learning of the location of a West Tek research facility in the region, the group continued onward towards the town of Rest Stop.
There on a rainy night in front of the gates of Rest Stop, they were ordered to halt and wait for the mayor. Acting on advice from Traven, the Mayor ordered that the group be medically examined by the High-Inquisitor for any signs of infection. This then led to a tense meeting between the Traven and certain members of the expedition (namely Jenna Duke, the daughter of Elder Duke, and Alice Swift, both of which Traven shared a history with in the America Convention).
Putting aside their distrust of Traven, the group learned from him of the situation in the east, and they as well as the Mayor, agreed to discover the source of the plague. After “comparing notes” the combined group came to the conclusion that whatever the Plague was, they may find answers in the West Tek facility to the North.
Upon reaching West-Tek, the group encountered a large and frightening creature guarding the exterior of the building. When the creature attacked, the group barely managed to kill it with the help of a friendly intelligent deathclaw who charged in from the treeline, and several of their members including the Mayor of rest stop, were badly injured.
Those that were injured along with a few guards (all NPCS) thus stayed outside the facility as the main group delved into its dark recesses. After exploring the heavily damaged interior for a bit, they were able to activate a friendly maintenance bot, who directed them towards the second level, where the records were kept. Mistakenly, the robot continually referred to Traven by the name of pre-war scientist who worked at the facility (this was due to Traven picking up a West-Tek security card along the way). However, the robot successfully guided the group to an elevator which took them to the second level of the facility. Here, unlike the first floor, the area was completely sterile and clean. After exiting the elevator, they were greeted by a robobrain who led them to a massive steel door and assured Traven (who the robobrain also believed was a pre-war scientist) that he would be pleased at the progress made within.
Hesitantly, Traven used the security card to open the door and the group entered.
It is here where the story was cut short.

Again, you don't have to be familar with anything that occured in the Eastern Expedition, because if you weren't in the original RP, your character wouldn't be privy to anything but the main and obvious details.
New Setting:
The setting for the New Arroyo RP (thus far) is that following the return of the expedition, a splinter group of the Midwestern Brotherhood broke away from the main group following their assassination of Lord-General Simon Barnaky. Somehow controlling whats left of the "creatures" encountered along the expedition route, these radical remnants have gathered some Legion remnants, Khan remnants, and other various bandits and ne'r-do-wells to their cause, and are now posing a signficant problem to the nations of the WCBOS, the NCR, and especially the main Midwestern Brotherhood group: which is now led by High Inquisitor William Traven, following the General's death.
As a character in the RP, you will take part in the fight against this rouge group, and will encounter various trials and warfare along the way, and will be swept up in the political intrigue of the Midwest.
Roleplay Elements:
A major element of both the EE and this new RP, was (and will be) the use of a unique RPG system in which the character stats you pick and the skills you have will matter throughout the course of the RP. Evlbastrd uses a ingenious system which effectively simulates playing a Fallout game as close as it can come in a forum RP setting. Speech checks, science checks, perception checks and so on will all occur. You character will also "gain" points and level up accordingly, which will be kept track of by the GM.
Similarly, NPC's will also be controlled by the GM.
In all, it makes for a very interesting way to conduct an RP, and its incredibly fun.
-------
So thats the general idea. This is basically an interest thread to get ideas and gather potential people. Evlbastrd is still working on the details of the RP, but we're hoping to start relatively soon.
