Not sure if this is the place to ask this either... but was the first book (Infernal city) good? Forget the fact that it was about TES for one second and just try and think of how well-written it was.

I would say it was at the level of a well done fan fic with a slow pace and a lot of attention to quirky details.

It wasnt bad, I think I notices a few typos but it had a good plotline and style if not fairly typical for a scifi/fantasy story. Id say the writing is average. The best part of it was the fact that it was TES and hearing the lore referenced, however there are more entertaining and creative in-game books.

with that said, I'll definitely get the new one :]
I wonder if anything in the books will carry ramifications into Skyrim or if the events in the books will be referenced in-game..

Agreed which confuzed me since I thought that you had to have it proof read before you could get anything published but guess not, its still a good read where I got up to it but if it wasn't TES related i doubt I would read it

Hmm okay, thanks for telling me your opinions about the first book. I don't think I'll read it (or new second one), because I'm kinda tired of reading. My studying already forces me to read thousands and thousands of pages.

well reading a novel and reading a textbook are kinda diffrent. if ur a huge TES fan than you would read it, not saying ur not because it was hard for me to even read the few chapters i did.

I look forward to Lord of Souls as well.

Personally, I didn't enjoy the Infernal City. The chapters set in Cyrodiil were very cool, but the chapters set on Umbriel were too "Alice in Wonderland"-ish for my tastes. Very fantastical, more Shivering Isles than Oblivion.

That cover artwork is such a joke. The reflections in Cyrodiil were way worse than that! :P

I moved this to Elder Scrolls general discussion, as this is not a Skyrim specific topic.

Carry on. :)

Well frankly I read a lot and overall if you aren't a fan of TES then Infernal City was not very good. Having said that, the caveat here is being a fan of TES. I am a rabid and obnoxiously obsessed fan, so for me I freaking LOVED IT. Which is why I have already pre-ordered this one. If you have spent any time in Tamriel then you should get both books because you know as well as I do, that it is just a wonderful place to spend some time...

I'll be skipping Lord of Souls myself. Infernal City was, for me...definitively 100% "pinnacle of mediocrity" sums it up. Not bad per se...but nothing to recommend it aside from the TES tie-in, and even then it felt burdened by "forced product tie-in" writing. Even the parts in Cyrodiil, for their coolness, sort of beat you over the head with descriptions of gameplay mechanics that felt forced.

Which is to say, I found it to be a typical videogame-based book overall. Fun for the tie-in, and otherwise utterly unremarkable at best.

I ordered Infernal City on bookdepository last week... still hasn't arrived <_< I think it might have got strayed or something. I will order again I guess, and complain.

Only after reading it will I know if I'll buy the 2nd one :) Being a book inspired in games kind of makes me afraid of the quality...

There's a few other threads of this around, but they've all sort of died off since the last time we got information.

I enjoyed Infernal City. It was no Lord of the Rings, but it was a fun way to spend two hours.

Two hours?

Is it a short book, or do you hold the world record for reading speed? :P

It's a shade more than 200 pages, with pretty wide line spacing and fairly large font. But I am a fast reader, don't doubt that. I took down Goblet of Fire in two days when I was in my young or mid teens, whenever it came out. Stephen King said a writer has to read, but with so few hours in the day I had to either not read or read real fast. Take a guess which one I picked?
