So, there will be readable books in Skyrim, as there was in Oblivion and Morrowind.
This is well and good.

What I am wondering about is the quantity of NEW books. Personally, I've pretty much read what was to be read in both Morrowind and Oblivion, and I was a bit disappointed by the lack of new books in Oblivion.
How many new books do you think we can expect to see?
Any chance of Bethesda opening up for some fan-submitted content for books ?
Would you want them to ?

Personally, I think it would be awesome with a Skyrim-book contest for the fans. Like, the best 10 or 20 stories get to be books in the game.
And also, it might significantly increase the chance for the hardcoe Elder Scroll-fans to actually see some new books in the game, since I doubt Bethesda are gonna pour a lot of money into having writers churn out ES-lore that maybe 10% of players are actually going to read.

This is actually a really good idea. What's more some books need to be rare or gone all together. Like ones relevant to specific places in Oblivion or stuff like "History of the Empire"

Hmm. You have inspired me to get my writing chops back. Time to prepare the story of Oblivion, lost and obscured over the decades.

Considering they've gone through the trouble of animating books to actually make them open in 3D with readable pages, I'm sure they haven't forgotten about them.

A fan contest for an in-game story is a great idea, but I'd rather leave the actual lore writing to Bethesda.

I'm hoping for lots and lots of books - they're one of my favourite things in TES games

Though, for the OP's question, I would rest easy friend. From Morrowind to Oblivion there was only a time jump of one year if I recall correctly. From Oblivion to Skyrim it is going to be two hundred years. I imagine that gives the authors of Tamriel plenty enough time to create awesome literature for us bookworms

Yeah, I can see what you mean - but there should still be plenty of room for fan-added content similar to stories like "withershins" or some of the other books that are simple little self-contained stories, but are fun to read. Well, I guess withershins was a skill-book, really - but you see what I mean.

This idea I really like. It would be cool to be able to see my book in the game let alone other players reading it.

I'd be very surprised and extremely dissapointed if the 200 year gap didn't yield a crop of almost entirely new books.

I love writing and would definitely participate in this contest with some short stories

They got 200 years to fill with history and we didn't have that much Nords lore books in the other games either.

I would be pretty cool with having a "TES Fiction Contest" where the winner gets to have their story presented in-game, but I think most should be done by the writers, like usual.
