New cave tileset?

Post » Fri May 14, 2010 7:38 pm

Oblivion's cave tileset is a bit bland. It's mostly square/rectangle shaped, there's hardly variation in the height of the ceiling or slant of the walls. Morrowind and Fallout 3 had much better and more realistic caves. I'm wondering if anyone could make a cave tileset that's similar to Fallout 3's and Morrowind's?

Somebody made a retextured version of the caves on TES Nexus. There's an ice cave and a moss cave I think.

Tsk, 2 bumps, shame
I imagen you've checked http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/totoworld.html?
I personally think that Koldorn's cave textures obliterate the old vanilla ones and I''m often just staring at the ceilings and surroundings of the caves.:)

If it's to your taste and GC powers, there's always Quarl III.

Edit: I guess you're asking for entire new models...

A new set of cave models would be nice. The vanilla ones are good, but there's just so many of them :)

I'm pretty surprised no one has made a new cave tileset. There's been tilesets and such for buildings. Over 3 years later (since Oblivion's release), and we don't have any new caves.

There are a few cavern meshes in one of the rocks resources which are pretty good, but once again they aren't very flexible. What's really needed is a cave tileset with separate floors, sides, ceilings and corners for caverns of arbitrary size and shape. Oblivion caves are so bland and inflexible. Morrowind had those huge epic caverns that went up or down forever, sometimes with whole ruins inside.

Yes, I hope someone, or some team can get together and make a new cave tileset(s). I mean, modders have made tons of different high quality models already, but no new cave tileset? I think it's about time.

Thanks to all the modders who have made Oblivion awesome.

Yeah, I could not agree more with this thread. It is really annoying trying to make huge caves with the existing tileset, as they can't be very tall. And it's not like you can rotate them very much, because the stalactites are incorporated into many of the meshes. The caves in fallout3 are amazing, but I've not played around with them in the GECK at all, so I don't know how annoying they are.

The best oblivion cave I've come across is the Mr Siika one from castle seaview.
