New copy of oblivion

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:37 am

Oki, so a while back I'd asked about OBSE working with my D2D version of oblivion. And I was told both here and on the OBSE website that it is not supported because of the encryption that is on it due to it being a digital download. So among other comments and replays it was suggested that i simply go and get a new copy. This was i think about a year or so ago I had asked about this. So, I go out and manage to find a copy at best buy. I think to myself " oki 50 buck isnt bad for the GOTY version". So i buy it up and take it home in the hopes that now I get to play around a bit with obse and related mods. However, and here's were I'm stuck. I open the package and notice that it says DVD rom. The first thought that came to mind is uh-oh. Why? because dvds as far as I know are encrypted in order to protect them from being tampered with or otherwise coped. (not that it help ppl pirate dvds all the time). Tho I do remember reading Silverlocks (if i got that correct) website that he/she will NOT have support for the DVD format because he does not with to break the law. And i completly understand.

But now I'm stuck wondering what am I going to do now? Am I pretty much out of luck for ever using OBSE? or is there that hidden something that I can't seem to find? This is all I'm really wanting to know really. I just thought a little background history would help show were I was coming from and such. So if I'm really out of luck its no big deal there are plenty of mods out there that do not require the program. But it would be nice to be able to have an opportunity.

Thank you for your time.

regards Moonie

There is no encryption on the Oblivion disk other than the fact that, like most games, you need to have the disk in your drive to start the launcher.

Well, you can download a crack, since you already own the game, it won't be illegal, right?
I had the same problem, but obse did work with a crack...

I open the package and notice that it says DVD rom.

I take it you don't have many games which are installed from a physical disc...

Yes, it's a DVD rom, but the game is not played from the disc, but instead is played from the location you install it to on your harddrive (somewhere other than C:\program files unless you like errors). It is the .exe on your hard drive, which is not in a read-only state, which will be used to work with OBSE.

Don't listen to the person who suggests cracks, not only are they likely to get banned now, but they're also telling you to do something which will almost certainly create more problems, especially since you don't sound like you know a heck of alot when it comes to using programs. Just install and patch your game, then follow the directions for installing OBSE. You shouldn't have any problem.

And with that, no more need be said on the subject here.
