New curtain texture

I am wanting to retexture the anvilcurtain01 for one of my working mods (i'm doing about three at once, whoo!), now i have found the necessary .dds files but there are three of them. One is the lacecurtain.dds, another is the lacecurtain_n.dds, now these two i know but there is a third, a lacecurtain_a. What is this _a at the end and is it necessary?
Im fairly new(ish) to this and i have not yet encountered this until now, so any help is great.

If I had to guess - It is most likely an alternate version of the texture (by naming it with the _a the game engine will ignore everything after the _ (this is used at times for say different colors of a texture that all use the same normal map ( ie MyTexture_black, MyTexture_blue, MyTexture_white, and MyTexture.dds would all be considered the same as far as the game engine is concerned and all of them would use the same MyTexture_n.dds Normal map (The NIf would still load the proper color as it does not ignore the _ character but the game engine would just see MyTexture and retrieve the MyTexture_n.dds to use with each of them.))
