New Cut Brotherhood of Steel Ending Found

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2015 8:06 am

People only hate the BoS because they can't separate real life social justice from fallout. Because of this, if Maxson is removed they have no reason to hate the Brotherhood.

They roll in on a vertibird launching blimp, they have power armor, amazing weapons, they have a giant robot....

I'm struggling to understand why anyone, regardless of endgame wouldn't choose the brotherhood.

Hell when they rolled into town, I looked up and realized I was wearing the wrong armor. The Institute was a joke, the railroad didn't last a single quest before me and my brother hood buddies slaughtered them to a man, the minuteman I tolerate because they provide long range artillery.

Going from the reaction I've seen in other threads here and on Reddit where everybody basically went "That is the coolest thing ever! I would so have sided with the Brotherhood of Steel!" The BOS are iconic in the Fallout universe and I think a lot of people find their aesthetic extremely cool. I *love* their design and always have. The only thing turning me off at all is some of their philosophy. If people found them more palatable I think they'd be all over it.

It's not about story so much as just people's gut reaction to the coolness of things.

You obviously missed the deleted thread where SJW's called anyone who supported the BOS to be literal nazis.

Heck, I think the Brotherhood is so cool, I side with them and actively work against their philosophy. I'd rather be a hypocrite in the cool faction than in any of the others.

Whether you make the choice of not, it's still in the game and is still, in my opinion, bad writing.

Personally, if this were left in, I think we'd see everyone complaining about how fast you can become Elder. People aren't pleasable.

That's why I'm glad it was cut.

Actually, the "powered armor" concept was first conceived in E.E. Smith's Lensman in 1937 and popularized in Heinlein's Starship Troopers novel of 1959, the latter of which is the direct inspiration to Space Marines, Terran Marines, Brotherhood of Steel and more within fiction, as well as the Lunar Space Suit and U.S. Powered Armor (currently in development).

I was actually referring to the Litany reference.

Given that somebody is going to get upset regardless, I still stand by more choices are generally greater than fewer choices in RPGs. Plus, I'm sure I'm going to get someone upset here, but Bethesda games aren't really about good writing anyway. It's certainly not the main thing I care about in their games. Or even in the top 5.

That doesn't matter, though. If you can improve on something, you should. Bethesda, by removing this choice, improved on the story. If you could make the Brotherhood whatever you want it to be, not only is that absurd from a storytelling perspective (sure, go ahead and change the two-centuries old organization overnight. Lyons couldn't, but you can because reasons)

It also hurts the morally grey set up of the factions if you can change one of their ideologies.

More choice isn't better choice. It's the same reason the House/NCR alliance option was cut from New Vegas.

This assumes your decisions will have any lasting consequences outside of this one game, and they won't. Bethesda can canon whatever they want for the sake of continuity and lore. Just like utterly exterminating the BOS in every Fallout game that gives you that choice won't matter. They will continue to exist. What I chose to do with the BOS is utterly irrelevant outside of my own gameworld. And imposing a morally grey story for the sake of a morally grey story is rather the opposite of an RPG. It's the devs telling me a story they want to tell and not giving me tools to tell my own.

To be clear, I don't think this decision was some make or break for the quality of this game. I'm merely saying that cutting choices just because it makes the story more morally grey is a dumb move in an RPG.

It is better to die for Elder Maxson than to live for yourself.

Can a space marine challenge an Elder space marine in combat for leadership, though? I don't get the reference.

40k's imperium uses a lot of bastardized and true latin. It's become an injoke amongst 40k fans to the point that the Angry Marines have a ship called the Litany of Litany's Litany.

As for challenging for Chapter Master, it largely depends on the chapter, but it isn't very common in most.

Been posted before.....mutiny and treason led by a synth. I am grateful Bethesda decided to cut this out of the game.....this would be the absolute worst way to destroy humanity's last defense.

I've problem with you become an Elder, but there's no problem with Danse becoming Elder. He's been in the BoS for quite a while and he earned the respect of his troops. I wouldn't mind working with him, even if we still have to destroy the Institute and RR. I just can't stand Maxson.
