[WIP] New Dark Brotherhood Uniform

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 6:53 am

═╩══════╦══╬═══╣ Description ╠═══╬══╦══════╩═

So basically, I'm working on my modeling and texturing skills to create what I hope is my best outfit yet. A Dark Brotherhood uniform. While I say that, it's actually composed almost entirely of little pieces from other outfits I've gotten permission to use which I've mixed and altered fairly heavily.

═╩═════╦══╬═══╣ Current Requests ╠═══╬══╦════╩═

I'd like very much to add a hood to this. I could just use a vanilla hood for the up position, but more than anything I want a secondary version with the hood down, and I'm not confident my current modeling skills are enough to morph it down like that.
Does anyone know of some other outfits out there with hoods up/down which I could use?

Any ideas on how the feet should look would be helpful as well.

═╩═══════╦══╬═══╣ Progress ╠═══╬══╦══════╩═

  • Design: ██████████ 85%
  • Textures: ██████████ 70%
  • Rigging: ██████████ 40%

The design itself isn't exactly complete yet, and I continue to change it up and add to it as I get new ideas.
I need to finish the textures so it actually looks like a Dark Brotherhood uniform (color theme, hand print symbol somewhere on it, generally improving the quality).
I then need to re-rig the whole thing since I've drastically moved a lot of parts (not looking forward to that...).

I'll warn you that I've been working on this loosely for a few months already, and it could be a couple more.

That looks wonderful!:)
Take your time, it is sure to be a beauty.

Are you planning on a feamole version as well? Will it also be Robert's?

Good luck on this!

Edit: Feamole?:o That must be one of the most bizarre fantasy critters around...wow.

Looks good, I too am curious if you'll be making a female version.

(You might find some hood-down images from capes (OOO I think has some, as well as Hemmingway's Capes (?), don't quote me on it though, I'm not 100% sure).

I might do a female version. That depends on how difficult it turns out to be.
I'll definitely release just the male version at first though.
I'd also have to ask Slof how strict that "do not convert to female" thing is. My guess would be the issue is with making a female-only outfit from it.
If I do, it will also be the Robert's body.

Looks good, Ronyn

The only thing that doesn't feel right for me, is when I look at the pictures, Tona left sleeve looks out of place.
And I hope to see the Dark Brotherhood hand symbol (bloody red, maybe) some where on the uniform.

Keep up the great work :icecream:

Looks good but the robe(?) sleeve looks a little out of place to me.

What is it about the sleeve that doesn't look right?

Just looks out of place because the rest of it is armored and then there's that sleeve made out of like velvet or something. Nothing bad, just doesn't fit in with the style of the rest of it IMO not that my opinion really matters.

I've updated the OP with a wee issue I'm having in Blender.
I'm working on reversing the sides of the belt and draqe and dropping the satchels to the bottom edge of the belt to make room.
This will allow one-handed weapons to sheathe on the belt, it will put the satchels near the left hand which is more practical, and the overall appearance is more balanced too, having the plate and draqe on the opposite side of the sleeve.
I'm also contemplating how I might add a row of throwing daggers, and I'll probably just try my hand at making the down hood myself.
Still have no idea what to do with the feet.

Yeah, I really like it, but the big puffy sleeve is a bit much for me. It's just not very practical. I like that you're trying to make it asymmetrical - that's something all the vanilla armour sets lack - but would you at least consider making a version without the sleeve? Maybe replace it with the gauntlet like the other arm has - you could keep the same look by just adding chainmail or leather. Not that it's my place to tell you what looks good and what doesn't, I just suffer from really irrational pet peeves some times, haha...

Except for that it looks great, keep up the good work man :)

I like the sleeve, but I see what you're getting at. It shouldn't be hard at all to reduce the size of the fold on the end.

All right, I've gotten past that issue I was having and I've put new images of the updates in the OP.
They're the same changes I mentioned before with the reversed belt and lowered satchels, as well the the sleeve being toned down in size at the end.
I'm not sure I'm happy with it though... and I'm pretty sure the satchels will clip with a one-handed weapon now even with them being lowered, but I can't test that.
I may have to find another way to arrange it.

Looks like an improvement to me
I still hope you would make a version without the sleeve after you finish though.

I've barely altered the sleeve so far. I'm confident it will look a lot better once I re-texture it and further re-fit it. I'm also thinking of how to add practicality to it; most likely having little throwing knives sheathed across it.

I can see the difference when comparing the two pics the improved one lessens the poofiness noticeably. Other than my own personal aesthetic nitpicking about the sleeve I like the style you are going with so far and I can almost guarnatee I will use this when it's been finished.

edit: yay I'm a curate :)

I'll definitely be using this too. I must say though, between this outfit and Drake's Argonian Beautification mod, my Argonian DB character's gonna be on the backburner for a while. Then again, I can afford to wait for these awesome mods. I need a new video card anyways, so...

Hope this just keeps getting better!

Right when I saw this I got a real Cloud vibe from it.

Looks pretty similar although with a bit more armor. I would also agree with the others that a sleeve seems out of place. Seems to me like a cuff like that was made for a pirate rather than a silent assassin. I would have gotten rid of the sleeve entirely and copy the glove and shoulder armor you have on the other side cause that looks really good.

how about he does that but keeps the sleeve underneath it? also maybe make the shoulder armor a lil bit more broader... looks too narrow to me for some reason.

Another change I'm iffy on. http://a.imageshack.us/img828/8875/nifskope201008311149211.png
I've changed to long pants.
I think the shorter ones had better flow with the rest of the outfit, but I couldn't figure out what to do with the feet. Sandals with the short pants looked too http://a.imageshack.us/img52/5271/nifskope201008311205062.png, and boots looked way too http://a.imageshack.us/img713/9598/nifskope201008311206250.png.

I'm actually starting to think I might like short with boots better.

I actually like it long though I agree about the boots looking too "commando". The sandals aren't too bad but I can't imagine a dark brotherhood member walking around assassinating people in sandals :P
Maybe try to get a pair of boots that don't looks as bulky, like thin leather looking. The chainmail look is what makes it not look that great IMO.

I don't know, the whole ensemble looks good to me in those pics. You could always include the different parts as optional components - have a long and short version of the pants, etc. Choice is a great thing ;D

It's not that much of a stretch. Sandals seem like they'd be one of the quietest things you could wear in that time period, since they're so light and flexible.
