A New DLC Idea

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:00 pm

Hey guys, I've been looking at this forum for about a few months now, never had a reason to post but I decided to sign up today and post my idea cause most of my friends IRL told me it was cool and that I should post it so the Devs may see it. That being said, please don't flame it, this is purely just an idea and I'm just looking for peoples inputs.

DLC Idea: Zombie Mode
This mode would be pretty clearly laid out. Since brink already focuses on major amounts of co-op, I thought this mode would fit pretty well.
Also the talents and classes would fit in well in a zombie mode. Engineers could build barricades to hold the zombies off until the broke it down, setup turrets and mines.
Soldiers could use Molotov`s to burn the zombies and uses HE charges to open up new rooms in the map
Medics obviously could heal players if downed and operatives could open up more rooms via hacking, or maybe add some abilities for them in this mode cause they don`t have as many good ones as some of the other classes. Obviously there needs to be some tweaks to skill cool downs etc to make this work, but that wouldn't be to difficult.

I also thought the gun customization would be really cool in a zombie mode cause in Black ops and left 4 dead there are only a few weapons and you can`t customize them at all. I also think some brink maps would be really interesting if turned into zombie maps cause the art style is awesome!

I haven`t given any thought to if the players could be zombies as like left 4 dead or just fight them off as in COD black ops. Id probably say like the cod zombies cause they already have AI in this game and it would way to much work for a dlc to incorporate new control animations and attack etc.

Anyways, I`m just sharing my idea, maybe someone from Splash Damage will see this and make it happen cause that would be awesome. Also don`t you guys think it would be to have zombies in this engine where you can you SMART to do some parkour and get away etc? :)

I love the idea. Your team running through level, desperately hacking or trying to blow up the doors to advance, engineers laying down defence behind with medics healing. I think it'd work really well. I'd prob play that more than the normal game lol

SPOILER!

Also works wel lwith the resistance's "what if" mission involving the reactor. Radioactive mutants!

Yea! that totally ties in with the story too, that's sick. And they could change maps to look run down after the fallout and that's when people on the ark starting mutating :D beauty contribution man!

Reminds me of the counter strike zombie runs which i ABSOLUTELY LOVE. this would be epic but only if theres no respawn involved as in you die you die. and maybe a respawn when you reach a further area.. and yes it would be related with the game due to those radio active wastes they found in the slums or what ever they call it. i like the idea although they'd have to do something about the zombie speed i mean.. your fast there super slow you can vault over things and they can but they fail ? unless all zombies are heavy built with a speed boost cause if they had lightweights n stuff with parkour you could just hop in a corner and bots couldn't get to you which kinda ruins the purpose and leader board scores i don't think this would work. but EPIC idea just a lot of work ~

Even if you hid in a corner the zombies would keep coming & the timer would count down & youd fail. Make the timer shorter, with each section broken up by a few doors needing to blown & a last one needing to be hacked, which takes longer. Id say give the zombies "heavy" stats, so theyre hard to kill but slow. & yeah, respawn would need to be fixed, somehow, till you access the next area. I think it wouldnt be too hard to implement & add a nice dimension. Its not massively original, the twist is Brink's core team gameplay. Everyone would need to work together or fail very quickly. Jus hope the game could spawn enough zombies.

brink already focuses on major amounts of co-op

Then all competitive multiplayer games with teams are co-op games. Which is technically true.

I think it can only work if you're going against massive hoards of zombies because the A.I. isn't that bright. A few zombies here and there will be too easy to defeat with a team of experienced players.

Ya that's what i was thinking, What I meant by "they have ai" is they have coded decently working ai so making tweaks to that to make zombies wouldn't be as bad as making up new fresh code for ai zombies cause some MP games don't have bots at all as im sure you're well aware :P

Brink is trying to be different. Zombie modes are the complete opposite of being different..... to the point where the players almost expect a mode like this to come standard with every shooter. Sometimes I think COD has spoiled some people silly. Now everyone is dreaming up ways to shoehorn zombies into the stories of every game, weather or not it is even relevant.

Wasn't Brink trying to evolve the FPS genre? Might as well add vehicles, destructible environments and chainsaws or curb stomps to Brink too.

I'm not saying your idea is bad, but make it original without having to add such an overly used idea.

Exactly. If you want to shoot zombies, do it right and play the L4D series; just because CoD stuck zombies in doesnt mean all shooters have to.

Brink doesnt need zombies, it needs more BRINK! The play out sounds fun but as stated, zombies is not original.

Please don't add COD crap to Brink. Play a real zombie game like L4D or Resident Evil. I hate games that stick Zombies in randomly. Plus, I really feel that the story in Brink is the backbone of the entire conflict and the online multiplayer. I just don't see where Zombies fit in. Let COD have the remote controlled bombs and zombies. I bought Brink not COD. I hate when Epic Games started adding COD crap into Gears of War (Stopping Power). Please, no COD crap.

The Idea sounds interesting and possibly really fun, but as several people have pointed out, it's not too terribly original, is it? That being said, I'm still on the fence with this idea. For now, if I want to kill zombies in a co-op situation, I'll stick to Left 4 dead. If this game-mode were to be added to BRINK, I wouldn't mind, but I wouldn't be too terribly excited to see it.

I think it could tie in to after the reactor is blown up

SPOILER ALERT

Maybe the characters could be from that boat when you beat the security campaign, they come back and everything is destroyed and infested with mutants and they have to get to founders tower to help a founder who survived! Lots of objectives and stuff. Then it comes down to fast zombies/mutants or slow zombies/mutants?
I think it could work when, in reality, any mode can be fitted to be in Brink, so don't say that it can't because it obviously can. Think about it in Brink. Think about the objectives to complete and the types of zombies. Then make a decision.

What if you had to escort somebody who was wearing a BIO suit and had the cure but you had to bring him to security controlled territory. Or if you had to escort a bot across the map and engineers could build barricades to block the zombies. Soldiers well molotovs grenades and ammo. medics are medics and what would an operative do?
