New DLC when FONV is barely playable?

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 8:21 am

I wonder where it will be set... Maybe it's Dogtown! O_o

I swear if that's what it is, I'll spend most of my time on here cursing at you Xbox 360 owners while waiting for it to come to PC about 1-6 months later. :meh:

Please be Horse Armor-like DLC. Please be Horse Armor-like DLC. Please be Horse Armor-like DLC. :cryvaultboy:

What's wrong with QA guys working on bugs while the designers work on new content already?

70 hours in and yet to find a game breaking bug.

There have been a few odd moments, but otherwise I've been having a damn fun time.

Can't wait for the DLC, especially as it'l come with updates as is anyway! I can't think of what it could be though.

If nothing else, a major DLC is an good excuse to funnel some cash and employees on patchwork. At least, I hope that Obsidian goes down that path, opposed to Bioware's lackluster patching with Dragon Age.

If it is DLC that is already on the disc but is locked I'm going to flip out. I hate that they already had DLC pretty much ready for release as it seems, I paid the full price for this game therefore I should get everything.

I could have sworn there were people on these forums saying that there will be no DLC for New Vegas. Is it that Obsidian are not going to make DLC? Am i missing something here?

No no, we said that they weren't going to make something like Broken Steel; a DLC that would let you continue after the credits.

I can assure you OP, you are the minority, most people have had a very good playthrough, but for some, there are a lot of bugs.

How the **** would you know?

Quote the official statistics or it doesn't happen....(rule 1 of forums)....

I think there is alot of exaggeration wit the bugs.

But some have really experienced major issues.

I can assure you that most of the major bugs are no exaggeration, at least for the 360 version. There's the DLC glitch that can cause your saved games to become locked, and can even freeze your 360 if you choose Continue from the main screen instead of load on a glitched save. I'm currently waiting for the patch that will fix this mostly since it's happened to me on all my saves (7 of them including the auto save), and it can happen at anytime since there's no truly confirmed cause of the glitch. Removing or just not adding the DLC does not fix this or prevent it from happening in the first place either. There's also the handful of bugs like quest NPCs not having any dialogue option when you click them, or just not being where the marker says they are, if they are even appearing in your game at all.

~40 hours in on the PC version, and not a single bug/glitch/freeze or anything. Much better than FO3, in that regard (in my personal experience of course).

I think people experiencing no bugs in this particular game are in the minority, I made it about 35 hours into the game and bam got hit with the Strip Blackout Bug (screen goes black and game freezes whenever I attempt to enter the strip, xbox version). I only hit this bug after uploading their 'patch' to fix minor game freezes (which already had me saving alot) and some small graphical glitches. I'm extremely pissed as this isn't the first time Obsidian has droped the ball and I won't be buying anymore games they happen to be developing. However, with this game I expect they'll have it fixed before DLC becomes available.

I've ran into heaps of bugs, most quest bugs that have halted what i can do.....twice now i've been stopped by a bug from doing the brotherhood questline.....two different bugs, both unfixable.

if obsidian is anything like bethesda was, then they have a group working on bugfixes and a group working on DLC. I do wish they would get a hurry on updating....one of the main advantages of steam is that you can update ot the player's quicker....but they arent using it.

The problems I've had are minimal. Three freezes, one terrain glitch, some extremely minor graphical oddities... and about a dozen times in fp view with a gun drawn, my arms go up to the top of the screen. Big deal. I found a way around the situations that froze me and I just plain don't care about the rest.

I am on the 360 and I preordered the game so I have the Mercenary DLC. I have not had a single save game lock up or get corrupted. I have not had a single quest fail because of a bug or glitch. Two follower quest lines also complete - without a single glitch.

The loading times (especially when crossing the strip) are a huge pain in the 455 but I've spent only about 1/8 of my game time there. All in all, I'd say: "Whatever."

I don't know exactly how many hours I've now got in the game but I just reached level 21 last night.

I can't wait for Christmas and some DLC!!!

I have played for 60+ hours, and have encountered exactly two bugs. Motor-Runner's helmet is stuck in my inventory after I completed the relevant quest, and I wasn't able to solve the monorail quest in the optimal way because an event wouldn't trigger.

Oh my gawd, i bet they had the dlc's almost finished already before the realease. I hate how every publisher thinks that they can just take out some content and realease it later for 10-20 or even more bucks.

You do realize there's more than one person working at Obsidian, right? Chances are they have the QC people looking at the problems, and the designers looking at DLC. They can multitask, you know.

That being said, I do think it's funny that they're releasing the first DLC exclusively to the one console that seems the most problem-riddled. God I hate Microsoft more and more every day.

I play on the PS3 and thought people were exaggerating too... after 17 all hell brooke lose. Freezings quite often but now I'm at Vault 34 and I can't finish cause the game either freezes or important stuff vanishes. I almost made it yesterday and tried to save but then the game froze and I decided to stop playing until there's a patch.

Eesh. Don't freak me out, man. I'll hit seventeen tonight on my PS3. So far I have hit no game or quest breaking bugs yet. I figured by this point I was safe. Now I'm worried.

On a side note, I find a lot of people (not all BTW) are complaining about broken quests that aren't really broken. People just explored areas that side stepped some quests. It's pretty easy to do because of a lot of overlap in quests. And given that you can kill anyone in the game, including pretty much every quest giver, I wouldn't call the quest broken because of that. You'll just have to do things differently on your next play through. I'm actually carrying 3 quest items that I can't drop for quests I haven't even encountered yet because I explore the crap out of everything. Have I busted those quests? Don't know. Maybe. If I did I'll catch them next time.

Typically, when a game releases that will have DLC, the team splits into two teams. One team supports the current game by fixing bugs and what not, and the other works on the new content. So there is no reason why they can't fix bugs and make new content. You might think well, why doesn't everyone fix the bugs? Many of the the bugs need to be fixed in the engine. Content Designers can't fix that. So you can get by with a few content designers on the bug fixing team so they can fix the areas where they screwed up the scripting, or some art has gaps and things like that while the rest of the content designers create new content.

First off - unless someone starts bringing up (verifiable) stats and numbers, saying you think those with serious bugs are/are not in the minority isn't going to go anywhere productive. (Because from my experience, those experiencing a clean run-through will think most people are having the same - those with serious bugs tend to think everyone else is, too...)

And second - yeah, QA and bug testers in a company don't do the same job as the guys working on new content. So it's not at all rare for a company to be working on putting out DLC before the game is "fixed." It's not like the Texture Artist is expected to start learning programming and how to fix glitches now that the game is out.

I can attest that this game is very buggy, way buggier than Oblivion or Fallout 3 when those games came out. This seems strange too, since the engine should be the same for all intents and purposes, and the devs have had several years to iron out engine bugs. Anyway, right from the get-go I had a periodic crash to desktop issue that appeared infrequently. After the latest patch, I can't play for more than 10 or so minutes without a crash, without fail. This makes the game absolutely unplayable, and it seems that many others on this board are experiencing this as well.

So, I paid $70 for a collectors edition game that I can't play now. I highly doubt they'll release a patch today, so I get to not play my new game for an entire weekend. Great. Obsidion is one of those companies that you really want to love. They have great titles, and great ambition, and I truly believe that they are a "by gamers, for gamers" company. However, they have yet to release a game that doesn't have major bugs on day 1. I hope they get these issues with their QA dept resolved because I'm not going to continue blindly purchasing their games forever.
