New Dragonshout Revealed?

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 7:40 pm

During the new trailer, we see several clips of our hero running .. but it's from the DRAGON'S point of view....

It is my contention that we will have a special ability at some point to be able to see from the eyes of the nearest flying dragon. In this way, Bethesda will let us experience flight again without the need for the game-breaking "Levitation" power. Most of us just want to be able to see Skyrim from that perspective, and feel the joy of flight, and while we probably wouldn't be able to control the dragon (or might'n we?), we may at least be able to see Skyrim from that point of view and feel the fun of flying as a dragon.

Whether something like that would be a Dragonshout, Perk, Feat, or something else, I couldn't say, but I don't think Bethesda would waste time putting a camera inside the dragon's viewpoint just for a simple trailer. It seems like a waste of time, and since they already DID put a camera there, I don't see why they couldn't just ADD this (feat?) (spell ?) (Dragonshout?) now that the idea is out here and let us go ahead and experience that sensation as one of our Dovakhiin cool abilities.

What are your thoughts?

The player was running away from the dragon, so it can't be the player doing it. There are plenty of angles you wouldn't get in actual gameplay, so obviously, they do that afterwards. A nice possibility (though I wouldn't bet on it) is that there may be a machinima mode, if this was a normal version of the current game build on XBOX.

Just because the player is running away is not an indication he isn't in control of the camera somehow. For example, when we hold the middle mousebutton while running it switches to 3rd person, let go, it comes back to first person.... so if he did use this as a Perk or something (so BTW, it would be his choice to use it or not), then why not the same kind of camera switching? He could be running toward the cliff while easily checking what the dragon sees to determine if he's going to be able to escape or make his final stand... and periodically he could be checking the dragon's view. What we are seeing may be a few seconds of that dynamic at work..... (just enjoying this thought myself, not intending to say it's going to happen or in any way already a reality) ...

In D&D there is a spell called "Wizard Eye" that puts a floating eye above you in the sky and you can see for miles in many directions above the treeline. They are really investigating many sources for this game this time around, and I don't doubt some other system's ways of doing things are finding their way into the mix. I'm just sayin'....

I'm just sayin....

Really people are taking everything in the trailer literally now, yes it was all shot mostly within the game engine, doesn't mean that it is part of gameplay, that was more of a cinematic thing for the trailer , that's like saying you watched the oblivion trailer and claim there is a spell to see into oblivion gates because it shows Uriel's dream about it, (if that made any sense). In the long run, there is like a 0.000000001% chance you may be right

Seems rather clairvoyant doesn't it. It would be cool to be able to do that, and having a camera added to a dragon is just going to make it easier to mod to be playable, which we all know is going to happen sometimes.

Off-Topic: Is it just me, or Has the forums become very weird about permissions. I don't know why I don't have permission to edit half of my posts and see my latest posts

Within the confines of the trailer the shout is proceeding the aerial perspective. Me thinks it's just cinematics. But it would be nice to have this effect with "summoned" dragons, not the ones out to have me for lunch.

Is it possible by in-game they could also mean a cut-scene? I know the trailer had a lot of Actual in-game gameplay, but the part where he is being chased by a dragon, and the fight that follows seems like a cut-scene.

Just like him sticking his hands out when he nearly fell off the cliff.

Actually, I think that reaction may occur whenever the player suddenly stops sprinting (and finds themselves at the edge of a drop). Given how highly Bethesda has spoken of their Havok Behavior tech, I'm pretty sure full body moments like these could be part of the game.

Thats what I was thinking, especialy since alot of the other content looked like actual in-game playing.

Also: That trailer looked amazing, and the towns look awesome. And so do the dragons.

Actually, it is possible the hands animation happens after you slow down from sprinting, or if you run too close to a cliff. You could be right though.

i doubt there will be a view point from the dragon. i saw where the warrior shouts i bleive using the voice of the sky to stun the dragon. that will be awsome to have and if your be able to get stronger after killing any drgon like the video implies.

It was all gameplay footage. Meaning, all done in the trailer is possible to be done in one way or another in-game.

The only purpose was to show the contrast between Dovahkiin and the dragon. It was supposed to build up excitement and anticipation.

This is my assumption. I don't see why that shouldn't be in the game... Mirror's Edge did it.

And to Gorbad Nick Breckon and Pete Hines both said on twitter multiple times that everything in the trailer -including the fight with the dragon- was entirely in-game and how it will be. Meaning, they did not specifically animate anything for the trailer. (Excluding the cinematic camera obviously)

As for the Dragon's point of view...I don't know. I feel like that exists in the game. But you probably cannot access it unless you have a dev console or are using the creation kit on the PC.
