Sad but expected.
I think many of us expect a TES VI announcement between 2017-2018.
Guess you'll just have to play Fallout 4.
Or Skyrim.
I'm not concerned, as long as they reveal/release it after the summer of 2017 when i get back from my university year abroad. Or better yet, in 2018 when i have finished my degree.
So in other words, as expected. Makes sense to me.
Pretty much. They announced Skyrim almost a year before it released (Dec. 2010) and Fallout 4 just 6 months before release. I think the shortest time between games for BGS was Oblivion to Fallout 3 which was about two and a half years so even if they had a similar time frame for TESVI, that would mean release in late Spring or early Summer of 2018 and the earliest we could hope for an announcement would be Summer 2017.
It's crazy though when you realize that it might be 7+ years after Skyrim before we get the next TES game.
That's exactly what happened with the Fallout franchise. It was a 7+ year gap between the release of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 (October 2008-November 2015). If they keep to this schedule we can expect TES VI in 2022.
Sad? Not at all. I'm glad we won't have a new ES game for awhile; I'm nowhere near done with Skyrim. Or Oblivion. Or Arena. Haven't even started Daggerfall. Or Morrowind.
Ah man, well TES 6 will probably not be as good as it's predecessors anyway. In my opinion.
Stop it. Stop. It. TES 6'll be awesome. Unless it's not. But I'm hoping it is.
Pseron: [censored], forgot all about S.I.
Then you have to try all the mods that have been made.
I have not finished any of the Bethesda games and I do not think I ever will even on the Vanilla version. Add in mods I think I might have to use up all my 9 lives to have a shot at finishing the games but then there is a new game from them and, and, and, back to square one.
I think that is one reason why I love their games since I just love getting lost in their games. Thanks Bethesda
Hopefully not 2022! Between Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 they released Skyrim, so the BGS releases went Oblivion (Mar. 2006) - Fallout 3 (Oct. 2008) - Skyrim (Nov. 2011) - Fallout 4 (Nov. 2015). That means the wait times between games were 2.5 years, 3 years, and 4 years. An average wait time would put TESVI in 2018 sometime (7 years after Skyrim) but if the trend of increasing wait time continues it could be as late at 2020.
Oh my god, I cannot believe it has been that long.............. Time has seriously been freaking me out for the past 2 - 3 years. It feels almost absurd.
Honestly, I'm willing to wait as long as it takes for a sufficient TES game to be released that has meaningful improvements in at least most areas, especially as far as quest design, story, factions, NPCs, and RPG elements go.
I think the ideal release date for me would be 2020 - 2021 but I think the most likely release date is 2018 - 2019.
I'm hoping I'll be in a Ph.D. program within the next year or so, so either way, I probably wouldn't have much time to play any BGS game for about 5 - 7 years from now.
Me neither. I'm like Renee. I haven't done Shivering Isles either. I started it twice, but didn't get any further than Xedillin, which is practically the first quest. I only got around to doing Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood and Mages Guild for the first time two years ago. I still haven't finished the Thieves Guild.
Morrowind, let's see...I've never started Morrowind's Tribunal expansion. I also haven't done House Hlaalu or House Telvanni, the Mages Guild, Imperial Cult, Imperial Legion and Morag Tong. I've started - but didn't finish - the Thieves Guild and Tribunal Temple.
I love that there's still stuff that I haven't done. The games still feel a little mysterious to me. There are still things to do. If I get around to them, that's fine. If I never get around to them, that's fine also. Like you, I love getting lost in Bethesda's games.
I wasn't thinking when I wrote that. It's not 7 years from Fallout 4, *slaps own face* it's 7 years from Skyrim. Which would make it 2018.
I have not used any quest mods since I still have a good portion of quests to do in Oblivion.
These games never get old (even when they get old), so I'm happy with the ones that exist. I've never been able to play a game before it was made, so I'm not going to worry about games that haven't been made yet.
If they never made another TES game, the world wouldn't end. Really.
I think their next game announcement will be 2019 at earliest, actually. I also don't think that their next game is necessarily TES VI, either. Now it is possible that it will be TES VI (I do want to see a TES VI, by the way), but if Todd Howard were to ditch one of the two IPs they work on in order to do a new IP, I think TES is the one that would most likely be omitted or pushed further back on the shelf for a new IP since TES is the franchise Todd Howard's worked on the longest, and there's always the possibility that he wants to either retire from making TES games or at least take a longer break between doing them because of that.
Actually, "for a very long time" almost does make it sound like that BGS' next game after Fallout 4 might not be TES VI, but then again, they tend to exaggerate when it comes to how long of time is a long time and stuff like that. Either way, we simply aren't going to know what their next game is going to be until they unveil it for E3 2019 or something. There is demand for another traditional-style TES game and they know it, though, so there is that at least.
Time between Skyrim and Fallout 4 equals the time from Morrowind to Oblivion, new console generating added an year of engine upgrades. Most probably 3 years from Fallout 4 to TES 6 like from Fallout 3 to Skyrim.
Fallout 3 took only two years but was smaller in scope than TES games (far fewer locations and quests) and it looks like Fallout 4 will be Skyrim sized.
Why should the try an new untested IP over an cash cow? Had been smarter to start an new studio for it instead like they did for ESO.
I think its more likely that they said for an long time so people should stop asking about TES 6 all the time.
If Todd wanted to go do something outside TES, Bethesda would probably delegate the responsibility of directing the team for TES VI. Don't think that'd be a good idea honestly. Problems with decisions the man makes aside, I think he's among the handful of people that actually "get" the spirit of the series.
They did it with Fallout 3, laid aside their cash cow for awhile to try something else.
Todd Howard has said that one thing Fallout has over the Elder Scrolls is style. He described the Elder Scrolls as rather generic fantasy. I think that if the right idea for something cool and new in fantasy came along, BGS might give it try.
Im wondering with Bethesda's take on the DOOM Franchise, how much life they might decide to give it. If sales for it are high/above expectations that could decide to try and get a franchise there.
