The bar hasn't been raised very high.

(in terms of characterization)

Huh. Thanks. Where could I find that statistic, all it says at my work is that it's gonna be there.

I wish they'd tell us a little more about the plot. It might go some way towards dispelling people's fears (then again, maybe not...)

Might give it a read if it gets a good feedback.

Would be fun if the book visited Vvardenfell to show how things have progressed there.

Ah, thanks.

Maybe we should just leave it as is, since having even the slightest word in the lengthened blurb being less-than-satisfactory would probably start another firestorm.

@Mamagato: drop me a PM if you'd like any more reading suggestions! And let me know how you like those books, it'd be nice to talk about them with somebody (though I've not re-read them recently). :)

Thanks, will do, when I find time to stop by the bookstore!
I'm currently engrossed in a historical fiction murder mystery involving the startup of worldwide stock markets and various british trading companies.

They should write a duology or trilogy about the the forming of the First Council, up to the Battle of Red Mountain. For the right price, I can write it for you Bethesda. Send me a PM ;)

read this passage from the ingame book "warp in the west" who thinks our new empeores name is going to be Lhotun? He's redguard I believe or was in daggerfall I think.

"Sentinel has gained the most land, sprawling across the entire southern Iliac Bay from Abibon-Gora, beyond the Dragontail Mountains, to the edge of Mournoth, Orsinium's territory. Queen Akorithi at her death left her enormous kingdom to her only surviving son, Lhotun, who is now surely one of the most powerful kings in Tamriel."

Power alone wouldn't be enough to grant him the title, Emperor. But I wouldn't complain too much. Of all the royals in Daggerfall, this one is actually a decent guy.

Also, I think King Gothryd of Daggerfall (or one of his relatives) could be a possible heir. In Daggerfall, an agent of the Underking says, "not even death can hide a true descendant [Lysandus?] of Tiber Septim from the Underking". It may have just been a metaphor or something, but I doubt it - especially since the Underking is (more or less) Zurin Arctus, Imperial Battlemage to Tiber Septim himself.

Power alone wouldn't be enough to grant him the title, Emperor. But I wouldn't complain too much. Of all the royals in Daggerfall, this one is actually a decent guy.

Ah, Prince Lhotun. The only noble in the entire Iliac Bay who actually gave me a useful magical item as a quest reward. :)

The floating city is troubling. . . and sounds Like necromancers. . . everyone knows I am a fan of the Daedra. . .

They've both become totally overhyped and cliche'd plot devices since Oblivion. Why can't we go back to the days of Daggerfall and Morrowind where these factions were more subtle? While we're at it, let's have a novel about dragons and gunpowder. Please. There's more interesting things to explore in the world Bethesda has created!

So who has a guess as to what the cover art will look like?

Just trying to keep up the discussion until something happens.

Yeah, it's pretty dead.
His Age of Unreason was a damn fine read, think I am going to have to consider joining it ahead of the ES book rush.

Well, read the Charnel prince. Funny thing, a lot of the formative ideas that became you're favorite MKoncepts seem to be floating around in there, such as
Spoiler
Prince Robert seeming to mantle the Black jester by breaking the law of death, or Anne and Austra mantling Muriele and Erren, respectively.

Also, one thing Keyes does well is that he can start off a character as the epitome of a trope, such as the gruff ranger or young Knight, but then evolve them in such a way as to make them full characters who still manage to fit into that role and more.

He has his work cut out for him, then. :D

I think either way he does. I think if I was an author writing a series with a fanbase who'se minumum standard is more than excellence and figured out what'd I'd gotten into I'd [censored] myself.

Another name problem. I said before that it takes more than laying Tamrielic names over places and people in Crotheny to make a TES novel. I believe he understands that. However, even more than having real TES stuff behind the TES words, he needs more than just that.

Basically, it also needs the TES feel of being a world totally foreign from our own.

I mean, look at it, if he has all the names, if he actually goes to TIL in his spare time to make sure he has the lore right, but it's stil just hollow names over hollow shades of things that are undeniably TES, then that still won't be good enough. So it's way and again more than TES names, way and again more than TES lore and story.

I just hope there wont be to much written combat in it. I quickly get bored of that.

Thorn and Bone didn't have all that much so far (two books in, book 3 coming tomorrow finally). He focuses more on dialogue and description than fighting, but then, we don't know what he knows about TES. if his only experience with it is Oblivion, then he might think it's supposed to be mindless good vs. evil all fighting all the time drivel.

Floating city = Summerset Isle

Isn't Summerset Isle known for its location to move/disappear?

that Artaeum. having the psijics turn people undead would be an incredibly cliche and out of character thing for this ancient society.
