Humans and elves have always hated one another as a whole. The Dark Elves consider humans little more than beasts, and this attitud was fostered by a religion headed by Vivec.

I would not think that the invisible warrior-poet of Vvardenfell that has butted heads with the Empire so many times would be able to garner the support of the humans that comprise the majority of it.

Well the empire is fragile now, and having a non-imperial leader may help hold things together, plus Vivec and float!

The Empire itself may not even exist in a cohesive enough status in the Fourth Era for anyone to comfortably take the throne.

But hell, I haven't even gotten a chance to complete Oblivion yet. I could be wrong.

edit: To actually answer the question, I highly doubt Vivec could be Emperor. If so, then Bob Saget would end up being Lorkhan's "regathered" form in TES V.

It would only make sense.

Whilst I don't think Vivec would ever want to rule the Empire, it's kinda something that would never happen, but the Empire was ruled by a family of snakes for a considerable amount of time, leading me to think that humans don't really care who rules them.

Why don't the devs just make CoC the new Emperor? Put a cake on his head, to symbolize his madness, stick Umaril's sword in the cake to symbolize his victory over the the Ayleid, with nine candles to signify the divines, and add another impossible title to his already massive list of feats.

Because he is now the Madgod, and must watch over the SI.

What in-game character do you think has the best shot of getting the throne?

Ocato is a mediocrity from what I've heard over the years (not able to play "Oblivion" yet). I think the devs will introduce someone new in a future TES game, and it won't be the player character.

I don't see how they'll avoid copying the CoC's story arc in that future game, but hopefully they'll manage to come up with a different slant.

It could be the Empire is finished, however, and we're heading for fragmentation into separate, squabbling provinces.

What qualifications are you talking about? I don't think there's a list that tells you what you need to become an Emperor.

There is. In a couple of cases, it includes ripped out hearts or other sacrifices and casualties. Also, it involves conquest, reenaction of mythopoeic events and mythically joining the bloodline of Alessia. Speaking of Alessia: at least one girl should be included in the process.

Good old Morbo'

Well did the Mythic Dawn actually take the wholl family line of Septim down, I'f so they did have a hard time, also I am quit sure a nephew or nience will survive the deadric attack and will claim the throne, perhaps a civil war ... otherwise than that I'f there is one strong leader during this crisis years it is King Helseth Hlaalu, I am not sure i'f there are more worthy leaders to follow up ... But Helseth is a Dunmer, there have been Dunmer's before Helseth even a Dunmer Empress at a time ... Or will mysterieus disapear into Slush

Who not, not Ocato ...
Not the CoC, the CoC might be the hero he is still not of Royality and/or Blue Blood, and probaly in the next game the CoC will leave to Akavir or Panadonyea like the Neverarine did before ...

A republic ... I'f Ocato is going to be the successor of one of his buddies, the Empire probaly will be a Republic for due time ...

I would prefer it that way, every province seperate. The Imperials have held the empire under an iron fist for too long. Sure, they promoted free speech and what not, but if you still didn't want to associate with them, one is an enemy of the state and legions are sent in.

So, I will end by saying, The Adoring Fan should be Emperor for a little bit. That little kid, sitting on a throne with a lopsided crown on and a dumb smile on his face, wouldn't that knock your socks off?

And he's unkillable. Every time an assissination happens, he'll just reappear the next day.

I think it will be like it was in ancient Rome anytime the throne was empty:
All the most powerfull politicians and generals have a great big civil war and the one that wins is the next emperor. While this is happening a lot of the provinces will probably use the chaos to become indipendant and have their own civil wars.

But they would have Tamriel's new national pastime, Kill the Emporer. Points for the most creative assissinations.

Maybe has 'public figureheads' with a powerfull one behind the curtains ... Most of the counts and countesses don't seem to fit to rule ...

I am not sure about the royality in other provincies, the Nord and even the Orcs seem to be the most loyal towards the Empire, trough Helseth seems to be also quit loyal to the Empire ...

But I guess there will arise a Septim-related somewhere on the Throne ( A nephew or Nience of Uriel) ... Otherwise I might think about the idea someone else suggested with the Roman Empire and there Emperor's ....

The nord kings are way to busy fighting each other and the Dunmer to give a rats ass about the throne of Cyrodiil and the Orcs alreeady have their own free-state completly indipendant from the Empire.
