A new endgame light armor?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2009 9:20 am

First: I'm not gonna take the credit of coming up with the idea because my little brother did ;)
Daedric is ebony that have been forged with the souls of a daedra. So my brother asked: Why haven't anyone done this with glass yet? And I think he is right, it would make some really awesome endgame armor.
Discuss and speculate if you want.

Well I personally thought that the Morrowind glass armour looked pretty epic... In Oblivion it looked too smooth and clean.

I just hope that the top level light armour or one of the special ones looks appropriate for a thief. I used the Morag Tong assassin's set from the Oblivion DLC packs on the PC (which looks mostly like leather) because I thought it looked silly sneaking around in highly reflective glass armour with the appearence of a christmas tree decoration. But I'd prefer to have unenchanted high level leather armour so I can add my favourite magical effects.

I felt the same way while playing a stealthy character and I was just about to make this exact comment. Some of those light armour sets just didn't seem like a very practical choice for a stealthy character at all. Hopefully this will be addressed in Skyrim.

Attending to lore, "Daedric weapons are made from raw ebony which has been refined using the craft and magical substances of the lesser minions of Oblivion. The process is not a pleasant one for the Daedra involved, and the weapons retain echoes of preternaturally prolonged suffering endured during manufacture. Daedric weapons are the most rare and expensive weapons known in Tamriel."

If you ask "why didn't they do the same with glass?" let me ask this differently: why didn't they do the same with leather?

Lorewise, ebony is the only material capable to hold a daedra, so if they're going to do a daedric light armor, I'd pretty much prefer a leather one. I really hope to see a high end leather type armor.

I wanna see some dragonscale light armour personally...

or would it be dragonleather?

I dunno, but some kind of loot from dragons other than soul/essence would be cool..

claws, tongue, blood, teeth.....etc.

You have a point. I hope they include 2 types of endgame light armor(and heavy, but I'm not going into detail about that) with one type designed to be used by rogues and scouts who are less sneaky, but don't use heavy armor, and one snaeky one of some light and dark material.

The dragons burn up when you kill them though, so I don't really see that happening.

Yeah, add the artifact "Dragonbone Cuirass" and I'll be happy. No need for massproduced dragon armor. Let Daedric keep the throne of strongest armor. Well of the heavy ones of course.

to be honest, i hated the way high tier light armours were designed in Oblivion, they looked like shinier versions of heavy armour. So i might say, light armour looked too epic for my taste.

Since mostly stealth characters used it, light armour should primarily be some dark coloured, skin tight leather (not latex dominatrix) . . . The only armour in Oblivion that fits that description was the DB one, but it was hardly a high tier armour

Yes. Demon fused leather/glass armor. They can call it daedric lite. Taking it to a smith and pay for the full version. ;)

Seriously. There should be an epic light armor.

I'd like more than two endgame light armors. I'd like 10. Give us some variety eh! I'd rather have 5 easily acquired end game armors, and the. Have 5 that are scattered around, piece by piece, in those 1-2 hour long dungeons. I like choices, and the more epic the armor, the harder hit should be to find.

They should avoid doing what they did in the deathclaw sanctuary, which was leaving the enclave amor just lying near some deathclaws. Too easy IMO. The remnant armor was easy too, but half the time that quest bugged out on me on the pc. Anyways, remnant atleast involved a quest, even if it was kind of boring.

No thanks I like variety, Glass should still be the/one of the best light armours in the game.

Let's do this in numbers:

IMHO, if the best heavy armor has 100 armor pts, and if glass is the best light and has 85 armor (shouldn't ever be tied in armor with heavy), I want a hight end (dark) leather armor with, let's say, 75 armor. I don't think it to be as good as glass, since glass is somewhat "rigid" and focused on melee combat, while my mage/assassin will try to avoid it, but I want a good one whenever I reach lvl 30+

Yeah, i dunno why high-level light armour is always presented as a more 'pure' armor when the wearer's are more likely to be assassins/thieves, even in shivering isles heavy armour wearer's got badass madness armour and the amber option was basically just yellowy-colored glass armour, but hopefully the new smelting will open up the options of cross-pollination.

Yeah, it's frustrating playing as a stealth character and not having any good looking, high level stuff. I just take the armor hit and wear low level leather stuff. Glass, mithril, elven all look ridiculous on a thief.

Yeah, I wish there were more leather-like alternatives. Hopefully we'll see Dragonskin/Dragonscale armors as high-tier Light. I'd say even Dragonbone(Heavy) (inb4 DragonAge) but that was a unique artifact in Morrowind.

Hopefully we'll have better armor classification, like Fallout 3-NV. Furs/leathers/Studded for light. Mail/Scale for Medium. Solid Plates for Heavy.

Well I think there will be dragon leather as light armor, dragon bone as heavy armor and dragon scale as medium one, and all armors will be in one Armor skill with different perks to make chose more certain.
Rogues will have something more like combination of unarmored and hand to hand with acrobatic and athletics as well with different leveled perk trees.
As well old Daedric\Glass still be there as high level equipment, but will be much better if such equipment will be much more rare then it was in Oblivion.

Will medium armor be classified as light or heavy? I thought Skyrim would just have heavy and light, like Oblivion. Has anyone seen different?
