New Engine for Bethesda?

Post » Sun May 30, 2010 12:04 pm

The Cryengine is the best engine ever on market so far , allowing tons of customization and even a more easy approach to modding as well as an official dedicated modding forum with promod respouces , now the cryengine 3 features also multiplatform support for Xbox and playstation as well as the infinite world tech that allows to create worlds as big as you want , more or less like the Gamebyro does , apart the fact that the cryengine offers way more things than the one that bethesda is using ...

* CryENGINE? 3 Realistic Infinite Worlds

CryENGINE?2 introduced incredibly interactive photo-realistic worlds, with huge natural environments that responded to player input and game events as if in the real world. From naturally frozen nature to fully destructible vegetation and buildings, players saw the game world as near real for the first time.

CryENGINE? 3 continues with this benchmark level of interactive realism in worlds limited in size only by the development budget thanks to intelligent streaming of game data.

Isn't the time to switch technology and get something more modern and incredibly realistic?

If Bethesda started work on a new engine after FO3 I think it's likely to be a new iteration of GameBryo given their familiarity with the engine and its flexibility.

Looking at future engines I think it's quite likely that Bethesda will be using id's technology now that id software is part of Zenimax Media. The Cryengine is wonderful but unless it offers something important that idtech X doesn't I think it's highly unlikely that they'd use it. However if you want to discuss this it really belongs in the official ideas and suggestions thread so I'll be locking this one.
