New HD Featurette released for Game of Thrones / Song of Ice

TL;DR - I am a raging Jacobin.

A Game of Thrones is all about getting the "who's who" on the aristocracy, so if that's the only book you read this perspective is totally understandable.

Spoiler
Dany's wedding night was a lot more disturbing than the book. I am going to find it hard for the audience to like him unlike the book

And regarding Tyrion:

It just might be the raging Jacobin in me showing through but I thought the entire premise of noble men and women romping about the place with no real connection with the general populace is a bit off putting. Seems to me like its a highly idealised feudal system but there seems to be a real disconnect between the base of their power (serfs and artisans) and those in charge. Its a rather high and mighty top-down view of the whole situation and the only place where this doesn't really occur is with the Khal and his band of merry men.

TL;DR - I am a raging Jacobin.

Where are you getting highly idealised from? Life for the serfs (or small folk, here) is pretty awful and it's portrayed as such. In fact, pretty much everyone bar the high royalty has a terrible life. You haven't been exposed to nearly enough of the books, the series explores almost every point of view in interesting ways. With the first book being called "A Game of Thrones", what did you expect? It sets the scene, the overarching plot lines, and the other books in the series expand on the world in more ways than just the lifestyles of the aristocracy. For an example of this, you don't need to look further than the scenes with the Night's watch on the Wall. They are just normal people who are protecting their country. There's no feudalism there at all, since anyone can join, from the most lowly peasant to the highest ranking soldier.

Obviously there is going to be some disconnect, the King is hardly going to muck around in the streets, now is he?

Also lol @ not thinking the Dothraki have a clear feudal hierarchy, the only difference is that they gain the seat of power by strength and not by birth.

They rather are a living embodiment of force majeure aren't they? ^_^

Is there someplace other than HBO that this can be viewed? :(

Unfortunately, there is no legal means to watch the show other than paying $30-40/month to get cable plus whatever HBO charges for the HBO/Cinemax package.

Hopefully, HBO will launch some sort of Internet only streaming subscription to compete with Netflix and combat piracy. Currently, their web streaming service is only viewable if you already have a subscription to the Pay TV package.

I would not expect to see this on Netflix anytime soon, as Netflix has become one of HBO's primary competitors for exclusive programming.

Well, swedish public service TV bought "The Pacific", so them buying "Game of Thrones" CAN happen!

Right?

Damn it, I really hope it does :(

Was it just me or was anyone shocked at the amount of six and nudity they squeezed in?

Not shocked, exactly. It's HBO, and there was a lot of six in the source material already. Aside from the scene introducing Tyrion with the prosttute, the six was all there in the book.

If you've ever seen an HBO original show, or any premium channel show then you get used to all of those six scenes quite fast. I've just come to expect that any HBO show will have at least one six scene per episode.

HBO just announced they are renewing the show for a second season. Guess the premier did pretty well.

That is great news indeed!

Regarding the nudity, there was slightly more nudity than in the books, but it was well managed I think. Stating the differences that I can recall:

The "Tyrion at the brothel scene" wasn't in the books (and I do think a brothel in Winterfell doesn't fit quite well, I don't see the Starks allowing that kind of business in their walls), and in the first scene Daenerys appears, she wasn't suposed to be naked, and Viserys should have nipble-twisted her over the dress.

To balance this, they did not show Catelyn Stark naked, which was, I think, probably due to the age of the actress and/or to the possible and understandable modesty of the actress.

Also, at the Dothraki wedding, it shouldn't have occured mere dry humping, on the book it was real six that happened.

The rest of the scenes were all on the book, the final one, etc.

Just stating the differences, I think they did a great job! ;)

The final scene in the book was also fully naked. I believe Lena was preggo at the time of filming and hence couldn't be naked.

huzzah to the 2nd season! The premier got a solid 2.2 million viewers for the initial showing, and 4.2 in total for Sunday. Combined with showing in later days, DVD sales, and phenomenal sales in outside markets, HBO made a good business decision.

If HBO ever launches an Internet-only streaming subscription service to compete with Netflix and Hulu, I believe GoT would help drive the subscriptions through the roof.

Seriously? Shouldn't he be focusing on finishing those remaining novels?

Writing ten new episodes is a huge commitment.

I'm sure he will do an excellent job, especially considering his background as a showrunner; however...

I want to find out what happens to my favorite characters dammit

I believe the deal is he is writing 1 episode per season, not the entire show.
