New Game crash driving me crazy!

I just reinstalled Oblivion and have my mods BOSS'd and Bashed, and I am able to get the game to start normally, but as soon as I click on start game, I get a message that Oblivion has stopped working and it crashes to desktop. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

It somehow related to the bashed patch, because if I don't have the bashed patch loaded, it continues fine, but what fun is that??

I have done that multiple times both with CBash and regular Bash and taking out all extra options, but the same result occurs...

Are all your ++/** files ghosted? If not, you're probably hitting the "too many esp/esm/bsa files in Data\" bug.

That bug induces memory glitches. It does not crash OB.

To the OP, I would run BOSS again and look very closely at the report.
With all the various mods and overhauls you have, I suspect you have a problem with a couple of mod conflicts.
Also, I would start by removing everything but the FCOM related mods and see if OB runs.

Good to know. I've never been anywhere close to the danger zone myself. :P

On the other hand, depending on the exact nature of the glitch, I'm wary of a blanket "does not crash" statement. Bad data does bad things.

Too true. I was thinking that maybe with win7, an out of memory or memory glitch may indeed cause OB to crash.
I can say with almost 100% certainty it does not do so on xp.

I don't see it being a memory issue since I ran similar mod lists on a machine with 3GB without issue, and I have 12 GB now along with running the 4GB patch...

I guess I shouldn't have said "out of memory". IIRC, when there are too many esp, esm, and bsa in the data directory, you get holes in OB.
The OB engine just can't deal with that many files. (that's weird considering the number of meshes textures and what not...)
By holes I mean textures don't render properly, they're mis-colored or black or purple or invisible - the standard normal map problems with textures.
There are also glitches in gameplay. AI doesn't work - NPC's or creatures are immobile and stand around etc.
As far as I'm aware, it's not an OS issue, it's strictly OB.

Well, just tried it with FCOM and a few other mods installed and it loaded fine...guess I am gonna have to isolate it by loading them 5 or 10 at a time and see what happens...

What is really weird as I am loading each mod individually is that many mods I have run with no issues in the past are causing issues now. Mods like wimdfall, the lost spires, alchemy advanced and a lot others are causing it to crash on new games for whatever reason even thpugh I have run those mods with no issues previously. Wondering if windows 7 is causing issues because previous setups were under xp...

Have it running with fcom setup with a lot of quest mods off due to issues

Have you installed Oblivion outside of Program Files? If not, you will have problems

Yes, its installed in the C:\Oblivion directory.

Are you selecting Mayu's Animation Overhaul option while building your bashed patch? If you don't have that mod, it will CTD.

I think you figured it out for me, although its pretty strange. The left sided check box was unchecked for the main category(tweaks maybe? Not sure), but the MAO box was one of the options checked, even though it shouldn't have been included in the bashed patch, apparently it was, because when I unchecked it and rebuilt the patch with some of the mods loaded that were crashing before, it worked fine...

thanks for the tip, I would have never expected that, since the main box to enable those options was unchecked...

hey matter, you might want to update Sneaking Detection Recalibrated before you get gung ho. 3.1.0 has some fixes that make it play better with OOO and few of the other mods in your list.
