New Game Mode Idea: Tools At Hand

Post » Sat Mar 09, 2013 7:30 pm

I thought of a corny name to express an idea for a game mode that I personally would enjoy playing.

The game mode (or mod) would overlap with the existing gameplay types by restricting available weapons to the base environmental weapons only (concrete and wooden poles, cars, shields, alien weapons). No loadout weapons could be used.

Each game-mode could be implemented within the larger category of Tools At Hand (the name I'm using to express the concept). TDM with the above weapons only sounds fun, as do other game play modes.

Any thoughts? Like/Dislike?

Love it! But might want to disable all weapons! And forced Maneuverability, Heavy Weapons Pro and Scout or something.

I think allowing alien weaponry is a necessity and prevents the monotony of simply a giant melee fest, also, it makes perks important as well.

*Part of the benefit of this game mode is that it would help people unlock new dog tags, and to advance more rapidly in progression for the environmental/alien weapons, as well as will cause people to have to choose new perks to match the game type.

It could be tested by someone simply designing this as a mod and implementing it on their own server, or, and forgive me because I'm unfamiliar with the server config options, simply disallowing all guns on the server and playtesting it that way.

Disable weapons, melee, stealth kills, and make lot of items in the environment to be used as weapons... sounds interesting.

Yeah but not all people play Crysis 3 on PC, shame Crysis 3 doesn't have events like Gears of War 3..

I'd actually want melee/stealth to remain in the mode personally, because if you can't find a weapon (and presumably there would be only a certain amount available at any one time), then you'd have to have some means of killing your opponent.

Another option that just came to me, is that if Crytek could configure it so that there were simply an excess number of environmental weapons everywhere, or a player spawned with 1 random alien weapon, that'd be another alternative as well.

You know people mostly use what's the easiest for them, and that is melee, so it would be 99% melee fest.
