New Game - New Spells?

Post » Sat May 01, 2010 4:49 am

Hi all, nearly one month down since the announcement allready!!

Anyway, with a nice new game, new engine, and new story comes (hopefully) shiny new features. So any mages out there want to see brand new spells? We all know the return of levitation is being called for, but lets look ahead and throw some brand new spell ideas around.

Destruction magic seemed to be only elemental such a shock, fire, frost. What else do we want to see? And i'm sure there could be some brand new tricks up Beth's sleeve.

Idea:

Astro Projection - Master Alteration - gives the caster the ability to leave the phisical body and assume an "astral body". You would have the ability to view/explore areas keeping your body hidden and safe.

Edit: additional ideas.

Possess humanoid - possess creature - Master Alteration

Gives the caster the ability to assume the body of an enemy NPC or beast for a duration of time.

Split personality - Master illusion

Creates multiple illusions of the caster PC as distraction/intimidation.

Circle of inbalance - Master Alteration

An area of variable radius is created around the caster. An NPC entering this area will be effected by the selected negative effect. ie, damage blade 50 points for example.

Oh I am sure there will be new spells. But I hope there are more interesting spells like the Astral Projection you mentioned.

since their is small hope that the people from dark messiah are sharing their wisdom, I'm sure we will see:

1- telekinesis (throw rocks,barrels, people!!)
2- magic missile (cool animations and effects, mysticism school I guess)
3- guided fire balls with a blast area that knocks enemies around and burns them.
4- freezing that actually FREEZES.
5-chain lightning.
6- flame wave.
7- rain of fire.

and many other cool amazing epic spells, if anyone wants the lame spells from oblivion/morrowind they are going to be disappointed, to my great sick pleasure

Remember how your hands are on fire in dark messiah? Let's have that in Skyrim. No more stupid projectile fireballs. If you chose to throw a fireball at someone. Your hand should look like the dude from fantastic four. Same thing goes for ice, etc.

How 'bout some illusion spells that actually create illusions? Run into a bandit cave, summon a giant daedroth illusion and see how long it takes the bandits to empty the cave in terror.

While previous games never had anything quite that flashy, The Banish Daedra spell in Daggerfall allowed you to banish Daedra back to Oblivion without any fuss. Though the spell had a penchant for spell failure.

And honestly, shouldn't a real conjuration spell have the potential to have the same intimidating effect on enemies?

Confuse (cant think of a better name for it) - Test against their willpower, if you pass then they turn and walk back the direction they were coming from. Good for stealth characters, the oh crap I hope he dosent walk past here, well I'll make sure of it.

Slow down/stop time - Everything else in the world slows down except you. Boost in combat. Stopped time allows you to move through areas and effect things (like charmelion)

You could just do an AoE paralysis spell though.

A bit of a variation:

Alter perception of time: A spell that lets you alter an NPC's perception of time. You could slow down an enemy's perception of time, causing them to become bored and distracted. Their more likely to stray away from their duties. Or you could speed up their perception of time, causing them to attempt to move the next part of their schedule, temporarily causing them to leave. (They'd come back once another NPC told them to get back to work)

Temporal incursion.

Lets you skip a number of game hours, based on strength of spell.

Handy for vampire types.

or if youve for instance contracted a deadly poison, and the antipoison seller doesnt open for 4 hours ;)

Doubt it, they'll probably just remove a bunch of spells, thats what they usually do.

Voice of the Nords - a loud shout that "force pushes" any nearby enemies.
Tounge of the Dragon - you breath fire :)
Frost charge - in cold environments, draw power from the surrounding ice into your hand, therefore causing the ice around you to melt. Release the charge into a powerful frost spell that freezes an enemy completely.
Fire charge - in temperate environments, draw power from the surrounding "warmth" into your hand, therefore causing the environment around you to slowly freeze. Release the charge into a powerful fire charge that burns an enemy completely.

That's terrible. Illusion needs to have Night Eye too, in case people get tired of Light. And 1s, 100pt Charm spells so that we can all ignore the Speechcraft skill.

Astro Projection - Master Alteration - gives the caster the ability to leave the phisical body and assume an "astral body". You would have the ability to view/explore areas keeping your body hidden and safe.

That was my idea, only I would call it scrying and it would just be in 1st person camera and you could float the camera up and get an aerial view too.

Owell at least someone agrees on the same mechanic of the spell :)
