New Game Plus

Post » Sat Oct 08, 2011 10:14 am

Do you all think Skyrim will support a New Game Plus Option, such as if you "finish" your first playthrough, can you start a new save file using your previous character you just played?

If so, how do you think it will be implemented?

If not, why?

To be honest I don't really see the point, why start a new file with the character you already have and if skills were transferred then that would totally screw up balance

Works better with more linear RPGs.

No, that feature has no place in an Elder Scrolls game

The very nature of the TES makes New Game Pluses redundant.

The game does not end when you complete the main quest. The game does not end when you complete the side quests. The game does not end. Ever.

I'm not sure about everyone but I normally have a base of operations where most of my gear is stored, so even if there was a new game+ i would still lose most of my stuff since i can't actually carry it all at once.

Edit: In previous TES games

It's not that kind of game O.o ... I take it you haven't played previous Elder Scrolls games.

Well and really the only reason to start again would be to play in a new way, different build.

No...

It doesn't end...

...mostly for this reason. There is no endgame in Skyrim, Even after you've completed every quest and explored every inch of the land, you can still keep playing with your character. Like others have said, NewGame+ is something for more linear RPG's that end eventually.

The other reason would be that since there are so many different character possibilities you could make, Skyrim tries to emphasize starting over with a different kind of character. That would be pointless if your new character was just as powerful as the old one.

I hope not, the game is so long and massive I never want to start over unless its with a new character.

This.

The game never ends... What's the point of starting a new save with your same character? It would completely unbalance the game. For instance, starting a new save with all of your dragon shouts. It wouldn't make sense.

This option might work in games like Borderlands because it was made to work like that, but not a TES game.

You can't beat Skyrim.

The game's also designed for you to used different character builds when you start a new game.

So... no.

Of course there is. At anytime you want, you can select the option on the main menu called "New Game".

Not only will you get to re-experience the entire game, but you get to restart all your skills and pick a brand new race!

If you get the PC version of the game you should be able to use tools to transfer your character to a fresh game save and set their stats with the console to match your first character. The game will probably be pretty easy because you'll probably start out above a lot of the level caps in dungeons.

I don't think the OP is suggesting that there is an actual game ending, that's why they used the quotations around "finish." I'm pretty sure they're asking if when you decide to start another playthrough, can you import your previous character at the same level and stats as in your most recent save game. The answer is probably no, but you should be able to do it in the PC version with editing tools once modders make them.

If you have played any Elder Scrolls games before you'd know that the game never ends for your character....

So no, it wont happen.
