New PC gamer running into bugs

Post » Sun Oct 25, 2015 2:05 am

So i've been a Console gamer for a long time i feel thats important to state. i just spent a whole lot of money on a Gaming PC and naturally one of the first games i bought was skyrim on steam, i've encountered some performance problems i really dont think its my hardware but heres what i'm running

a MSI Geforce GTX 980ti with 6g of DDR5

a Intel I7 quadcore skylake processor

and my monitor is a asus ROG swift

all on windows 10

I spent a lot of money on my rig so i'm really hoping it can run a 3 y/o game

problems i'm having, so I just hooked up my new monitor and i'm running it on 2k at ultra settings and the sound keeps poping when i'm walking outside, and whenever I run into a wolf it stutters and skips,

like I said I don't think its a hardware issue, I could be wrong, any advice is appreciated and if the information that I've provided is not sufficient i'll be happy to go into more detail,

needless to say this is not the experience I was looking forward to hope for a speedy resolution

please and thank you

Make sure your chipset (motherboard drivers) are up to date with the latest ones from the motherboard manufacturer's website. Also, make sure you grab the sound chip drivers too.

Make sure you have no other multimedia programs running while you are running the game on your PC. Older TES titles even wanted MP3's to be associated to Windows Media Player, so you might try that.

One other thing, while this will have nothing to do with your sound issues, once you get this sorted, make sure you get the Unofficial Patches

The disk that comes with the parts can have older drivers on it. Not something you want with a new OS like Windows 10. So, that is why you go straight to the manufacturers site for the parts you have.

As for the UOPs, Skyrim Nexus is where you go for that. Just doing the patches is OK, but if you start looking at a bunch of mods, please learn how to properly select them, install them and use them before you start adding a bunch of stuff to the game. Mods on this game are tricky in that once you apply one to a save file, you pretty much have to keep it on the game, unless you make forked saves. There are plenty of threads on the care and feeding of mods in the Mods section.

But, get your sound issues sorted first before you do any mods, even the UOPs

If you have installed the unofficial patches and you're new to using community plugins, chances are that you just tossed them there. It doesn't work like that

You need to make sure they're arranged like this in your load order:

Skyrim.esmUpdate.esmUnofficial Skyrim Patch.espDawnguard.esmUnofficial Dawnguard Patch.espHearthfires.esmUnofficial Hearthfire Patch.espDragonborn.esmUnofficial Dragonborn Patch.esp[Your other ESM files]HighResTexturePack01.espHighResTexturePack02.espHighResTexturePack03.espUnofficial High Resolution Patch.esp[The rest of your mods]

Don't worry about it Nyrue and never hesitate asking questions. People are here to help in any way they can, not judge you, or anyone else.

There was a case posted a month ago or so, which had me (at least) chasing my own tail. Turns out the culprit, was indeed the fact that the user was running the game at 144Hz. Cap it at 60Hz and see how it goes, if you haven't done so already.
