NEW Get Smart Series Video!

Post » Sun Sep 26, 2010 8:56 pm

I heard something about there being 7 Get SMART videos, we have seen 4 so far

Hoo, so excited :P

Splash has recently put up something big every day except on bank holidays and weekends, so.. Maybe something juicy tomorrow?

I think that Splash Damage are doing something good with this Get SMART series. Most developers tend to only release trailers which show either cinematics or extracts from gameplay. It is nice to actually see full on introductory videos being published in the public space pre-release.

Does anyone know when grenades are actually thrown?

Seriously, who cares? That's something that can wait until you get it. (Also, there's what someone else said about cooking grenades by holding it, but yeah, it could still be releasing a 'grenade button' or holding the 'grenade button' then RT, I don't know).

Anywho, this vid was another piece of the puzzle explained. I like the aesthetics of it. Except it didn't talk about icons or outlines for players or objectives that are dynamic to them, as opposed to the strict HUD which is always in the same position on your screen no matter what. Those are the things that would get cluttery, I suspect. If there aren't HUD customization options then custom HUDs will come out sooner or later. ^_^

The HUD is pretty damn cluttered in my opinion. The only gripe I have about Brink so far.

I'm so going to configure my hud more to my liking :P

All that wasted screen space around the outer edges of the hud makes me want to cry. As designers, are we really still creating huds with CRT monitors in mind? All of those hud elements should be pushed to the corners and/or to the screen edges.

... and a "scale ui" option wouldn't hurt either. :)

HUD's lookin good! Would have been nice to have some more clarity for some other parts, like XP/health bars/ally icons for those who don't know.

I also now forgive the Royal Wedding for [censored] up the Get SMART series flow, since my celebrity/musician crush Ellie Goulding performed.

It's possibly an ergonomic thing. I agreed with you until I saw the video, and then I realized that having the elements that little bit closer to the center of the screen (with the goings-on of the battle, the map itself, the crosshairs, etc.) means it takes that little bit less to check your status and overall gives you slightly quicker reactions. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want my HUD spread out to the four corners of the globe.

In fact, you'll find that for competitive HUDs the health and ammo (more so than recharge bars, clocks, and meters etc., but them too) are moved closer to the crosshair (sometimes directly, sometime just horizontally), so that the edges of the screen can be used for... guess what... seeing people! ^_^

OF COURSE! Of course they would release it after 4 days of silence! GGGGRRRRRRR!!! :banghead:

Okay I'm calm. Don't think I'm not happy about this, but releasing 3 in 3 days and then stopping for 4 days straight! That's low. Clever, but low.

P.S. I was right! They were just trying to mess with our heads! Very good SD.

Puts them right in tune to release one on the ninth
if they do one for the NEXT 3 days, then one four days later

I love that there was a new vid but most if not all of us already know how the HUD works.......(anyone know what happened to the Facebook list of abilities that was supposed to have a new ability everyday?)

It seems once again my attempts at humor fly right over someones head

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1rlThKe1qo I was implying that Splash Damage is Obi-Wan here and all the ability-craving fans are the storm trooper

Anyone know if there are going to be any differences between the console and PC HUDs because that skill pad just doesn't seem like it would work with PC, same goes with the objective wheel.

Anyone know?

Might be the arrow keys to work the abilities.

Arrow keys would be worse then...

Maybe it's 1-4 on the top since there you can only carry 2 guns.
