I converted the vanilla male greaves to fit HGEC EBE, but ingame sometimes the greaves look funky. The effect is most noticeable when it's foggy and I'm near a light source.

Absolutely no idea. Make a great assassin's garb out of it, though.

Maybe something weird about the alpha setting in the nif?

I've had a similair problem once. I thought that when you mess with the colours in NifSkope you get these effects
