But Slavery in the Fallout world is just business. A way to make a quick profit, the fit preying off the weak. It's a powergame, rather than a race thing.
The Legion will be interesting because they operate a Roman style slavery model. Thing is, in the ancient world, anyone could be a slave... but that slave could "better themselves" and move up the ranks. It was a class thing, more than anything.
No races are innocent of slave trade. As an example, African slave traders were largely to blame for bringing slavery to the American colonies. There was not much of a market for their slaves in Europe, where there was already feudalism and the lords were served by their serfs. Consequently, the African slave traders marketed their slaves to the New World instead, where there was a definite need for labor. In time, the slaves became 'institutionalized' there. Here's an interesting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_slave_trade on African slave trade.
In any case, there will always be immoral individuals who will seek to dominate others, regardless of color, when there is no rule of law.
In any case let us pray that it never happens again.
Back on topic some dreads would look right at home too I think. Big and Klingon like

Its going on still. More progressive countries just gave it a new name. Private prisons are huge money makers in the US. 3 strikes and your a slave. We have 1% of the population in jail, more than any other country and the reason is money. Diamond industry is slave heavy. Sweat shops, forced prostitution. etc.
has anyone found any pics or videos with any new hair styles in them? iv been looking through all the videos and tailors that i can find and i haven't seen any long hair styles for men. or any other new hairstyles for that matter and as a man with long hair this is a bit of a disappointment.
I share your pain, long-haired brethren. I always had to settle for the 'wind-swept' look. however, as I have recently gotten a job, I had to cut my hair to just short of my shoulders, so it's now actually pretty accurate.
I usually have long hair in RL but i really don't want any longer than there already are in fallout. Just thinkin about the fact that you are trying to survive in a wasteland filled with all kinds of monsters, do you realise how easy it is for a ghoul to grab you by the hair? So no long hair for me in fallout, the shorter the better. :vaultboy:
speaking from experience, the problem with long Fallout Hair is that the meshes don't display or obey any form of gravity or conformation to the underlying mesh (ooo big words for a sunday morning).
Basically, if you have long hair, and bend over, the hair sticks out straight up in the air and looks silly. Which is why most of the hairstyles in fallout are bobs/crewcuts/mohawks/topknots etc.
ooo... and speaking of which, this is a 50's thing, they still had the demob mentality back then. Hence all the suits look like demob suits, all the hair is short etc. WWII had an enormous affect on fashion, for both men and women. (Women in dungarees and jumpsuits? who'd have thunk it?). It wasn't until the generation after that fashion started to change, the rocker look etc, and that was mostly to counteract the blandness of the demob generation.
So long hair in Fallout is more likely down to lack of scissors than a fashion statement.
(I love long hair, on men and women. They have always worn it like that. It's the demob/McCarthy mentality that labels long-haired men "communists" and "Un-American" etc. Didn't Custer have long hair? I rest my case)

Exactly my point. Its probably a difficult line for the devs to walk, balancing the 50s aesthetic with the wasteland reality. That's why in Fallout 3 we got people who looked like Mad Max bikers attacking people who got their Fashion tips from Marilyn Monroe.
Long hair could fit the Former, but was the hippie movement too embryonic in the Fallout world for that sort of thing?
if there is any counter-culture in Fallout, it would be more the Beatnik/shades/beret style than the long hair/flared jeans hippy style. But then again, wasn't there reference in FO3 to "don't pay attention to their hippy babblings" (or somesuch, I forget the exact phrase). So it would be very very early hippy, the Jack Kerouac meets young Ken Kesey type thing, rather than the full-on late 60s Woodstock thing.
