New hands-on preview indicates pop-up issues..

Post » Thu Oct 20, 2011 7:15 am

didn't seemed to be the case in the demo that we watched and that was on the 360. I think that if it was a problem then there would be commenting on it so I won't worry one bit.

Well, there was a bit of texture and rock pop-up, especially when leaving Riverwood, but it definitely transitioned more smoothly than before. Graphically, nothing can really be done. There's going to be texture and small detail changes as one gets closer to a specific area, but as long as there are distant, low-poly models of structures so ruins don't pop up anymore, so long as we don't get stuttering/momentary freezes while moving between cells anymore, and so long as we don't get that "loading area" message, it should be fine and fluid.

I realize that I need a powerful PC to fully enjoy the graphical capabilities of Skyrim but money being tight prevents me from purchasing one. Not sure what 'imurs' is supposed to mean, seen it quite a bit on here, strikes me as a tad childish in all honesty.

I have just seen that word on here so many times I refuse to spell it correctly anymore. If that is childish, so be it, guilty as charged.

WTF is pop up and why should I be worried?

An example would be..... ''where are the trees like? ...... <2secs later> oh there they are''

And i wouldnt be worried, especially you....no doubt you have played a game that has had pop up, and you aint even noticed it. So dont worry about it.

...... Oh you forget, some really just dont want to game on a PC. Some are afraid that they might turn into an elitist, like yourself, and anything they play again MUST be on a PC.

Personally, i choose consoles for comfortability. I play online alot, friends cba with PC's either, so yeah, console wins my vote in that sense.

I could go off on a tangent here and point out all the fallacies of your post, but I'll just say: fine. You want to play a console, I have NO PROBLEMS with that and I hope you enjoy it.

But if you continue to support outdated tech, don't complain about the drawbacks of it. That's all my post said. You want to play a console? You have to live with the graphical limitations.

4 month old alpha build or not, there's going to be pop up issues with skyrim. The real thing to worry about is what's going to be tweaked to improve it. Textures, shadows, AA etc. Also, expect a lot of blizzards, this way it will cover up that pop up, much like morrowinds fog.

360 players.. my brothers..and sisters if you are one.. have no fear! Just install the game to your HDD. Upon your second trip to a discovered location/town/dungeon/anything the HDD remembers the information from you visiting it previously, and the load time will be fairly quick. There will always be popups, but it'll be reduced greatly and hardly noticeable after your second trip to locations.

If you don't play on a PC because of your own insecurities, that's not anyone else's fault.

As for the whole "comfortability" issue: I'll refer you to the song "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better". Now replace "You" with "Consoles" and "I" with "PCs". Want to play a PC on a TV screen so you can sit on your couch? You can do that. Want to have an X-Box or PS3-style controller? You can do that. Want better graphics? You can do that.

It's not elitist to state this one, very simple fact: the best possible graphics on an X-Box are the worst possible graphics on a PC.

Now, if you still want to play a console, that's just fine. I don't care. But don't come here and whine about the problems you encounter because the technology you're using is 6 years old.

I think that the writer is over-exaggerating because it wasn't that bad. You never know though

Why are they playing an alpha build less than a month away from retail release?

If you READ my first post in this very thread, you will see i have no qualms about ''outdated tech''. You're a PC gamer? Thats fine also, just dont ram Specs and tech rubbish into every damn post. As many state, they CHOOSE to console game, or they cannot AFFORD to build a ''rig''. But ofc you glance over that. Oh yeah, i also have played Games On PC...yes with full specs, before some Console ''really devoted fan'' [censored] comes into it.

''You got a problem....oh well its your fault, build a f'in PC...blahblahblah'' - Seriously, thats all i read from the majority of people that cant see past their nose, let alone their ''Rig''.

I posted in the other thread but it seems this is the one where people are discussing the issue. I think most people are aware that there will be a certain amount of pop in in games, it's inevitable. However it's the way that the game handles pop-in that is the issue. This is a regular occurance in Oblivion: http://youtu.be/SflbaKhBs5I?t=1m4s - it's really unacceptable to have that sort of thing happen in a game these days. As for the rocks and trees etc. there are less conspicuous ways of handling pop-in with LOD models, simply having a rock blink into existence is rather off putting.

There are mods that allow you to show all objects all the time but the problem is that they demand a stellar PC because they draw all the objects all the time at high detail. The solution is a more progressive LOD system, we've heard mixed views so far but that last preview that someone linked to seemed disappointing.

Hopefully to wow journalists. They see skyrims alpha, and are impressed. Then they review the gold a month later, and [censored] themselves over all the improvements! Atleast, that's what I hope for.

It probably has more to do with time/money. Not having to make new DVDs of the newer build for people to play the game or something? They must have a few dozen xbox 360s for the journalists to play, so that means a lot of DVDs to make each time they update the build. Reusing the same one is just easier.

Again, I don't see how stating a fact is "elitist". I'm not saying "You svck for playing consoles," though you clearly seem to be implying that PC gamers are all elitists (funny, since the only one with a condescending tone in this thread is you).

I read your other posts. Fantastic. Like I said, good for you. You can play X-Box all you want. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I have no problem with what platform you choose to play on.

But I'm also really not sure what your problem is. You seem to just be here to attack PC users for pointing out that if someone genuinely has a problem with draw distances, they should look at getting the PC version. Maybe you should direct your flaming energies into something more constructive... like painting or something.

Creating a special demo build takes development time and energy that can be better spent on finishing and polishing the final game. Instead of pulling resources to work on demo builds, they just let the journalists play the build they prepared for the bigger exhibitions like E3. Everything is a tradeoff in software development life.

When your opinion is "You svck for playing a PC, and you're elitist for daring to point out all the things that make PCs better," then yes, it's flaming.

No one in this thread has told you to go build a PC. Ever. Get off your high horse and actually read the posts directed at you.

You really didnt read my post before i replied to yours at all DID you?

Clearly i stated i have/do play on PC also. I just dont choose to give it as a solution to everyone who DOESN'T PC Game. I know, shock horror, i play PC and Console, who'd have thought.

I think you just got a bee in your bonnet that not everyone see's PC Gaming the way you do.

It's always some random PC user opening their mouth and starting some debate or argument. WE KNOW PC has better graphics, speed, and versatility. It's a fact.

Why some PC user has to start this crap in every honest thread like this is beyond me. Power tripping people need to just trip instead.

You truly must be mad, and to be honest, I read the whole thread through, and I still dont get why youre spewing your crap all over, for the sake of this forum stop making (idiotic and childish) replies.

Also @Why PC players open their mouths, is ironically to help out. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?
PC's arent that expensive, and GASP some people PREFER TO PLAY ON PC INSTEAD OF CONSOLE so get out will you.
No one says you have to shell out 20.000 dollars, its but a fraction of that price. And pop ups are a fact of this generation of consoles, if you want a game as pretty as Skyrim, youl have to (on consoles) deal with stuff like this.
This is why PC users open their mouths, to help out, to say that if its really that annoying, then there is an alternative and its not as expensive as one might think.
