New hands-on preview indicates pop-up issues..

Post » Thu Oct 20, 2011 7:16 am

One preview out of maybe 100 mentions pop-up issues. Something tells me it's not that big of a deal if all the others failed to notice it or think enough of it to include it in their previews. Perhaps that single person has unrealistic standards.

Flaming now is it? So, Giving my opinion = flaming.

Calling someone an elitist is an insult and insulting someone is a personal attack known on these forums as flaming so yes you are flaming people by calling them elitists.

Of course there will be pop-in on consoles, there is no way around that. The question is, just how bad will it be?

I think you can expect a certain amount of polish or draw distance:

Oh man, I know you said draw distance but Just Cause 2 even on the PC was very difficult to drive in due to object pop in. I don't really care about grass popin, but rocks would literally show up so close to my motorcycle that I would be unable to avoid them often.

You truly must be mad, and to be honest, I read the whole thread through, and I still dont get why youre spewing your crap all over, for the sake of this forum stop making (idiotic and childish) replies.

Also @Why PC players open their mouths, is ironically to help out. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?

PC's arent that expensive, and GHASP some people PREFER TO PLAY ON PC INSTEAD OF CONSOLE so get out will you.
No one says you have to shell out 20.000 dollars, its but a fraction of that price. And pop ups are a fact of this generation of consoles, if you want a game as pretty as Skyrim, youl have to (on consoles) deal with stuff like this.
This is why PC users open their mouths, to help out, to say that if its really that annoying, then there is an alternative and its not as expensive as one might think.

Lol, my crap? Funny as i quoted this your only post was to flame (pre-edit). Good on you, you really showed me a thing or two.

And nobody mentioned $20k. Some will struggle to pay $200... they may have mortgages to pay, children to raise, wives that love shoes. So unlike yourself, responsibilities take priority. How hard is that to understand?
And i have clearly mentioned many.... many times that some console game as a CHOICE. When in this thread have you seen me complain about pop-up? Yeah....

You serious? I've noticed no pop-in on Just Cause 2 and played it for nearly 20 hours! A completely different experience to Oblivion.

Very weird that of all the previews I've read, this is the only one that says the world is not great looking...and mentions the pop-in.

Odd. All the other previews don't mention pop-in and they say the game is incredible looking...

Since there's been 40+ previews posted the past couple days and no one has made a big deal about it, i'd say not bad.

Sure but no one said anything about it in Oblivion either and it wasn't noticable in the pre-release videos too. That is why I'm concerned.

Well ofcourse a game like that won't even look half as good on a console as it would on a proper pc... Consoles are just a moneyfarm, that's it.

I hardly think it is going to be an issue even if its on par with Red Dead Redemption which had little to no pop up that i noticed. People need to keep in mind that they need to take these previews with a grain of salt and let the game speak for itself on the retail build not a 6 month old alpha build... :shakehead:

Say, here's a fresh new Idea....

Xbox / PS3 players are going to get the game on Xbox / PS3. PC players, please accept that and move on without insulting anyone.

This forum is suppose to be about enjoying the game but now we have to flame everyone to stroke our egos? Come on people, can't we just talk about the game itself without grabbing on to every little comment made by some random guy and latching onto it as an excuse to put people down? I love what I have seen on the Xbox demos, and I also plan on getting it on PC as well as Xbox. I don't have to have one superior to the other to enjoy the game. God! Its like frikken congress in here. :flame:

Not sure if it was a problem exclusive to PC. Again, the only time I had a problem with it was while driving offroad, but yeah, it was definitely a repeatable issue. I'd get rocks and [censored] popping up 20 meters in front of my vehicle.

that was more of a bug than a structural limitation. The object loading was great in just cause 2.

I just go with my own eyes. ALL of the video footage i have seen has virtually NO pop in whatsoever. What little there is(grass not with standing) is very hard to spot. You have to stare at the distant land intently to catch it and that's a frigging alpha build that hasn't even been optimized yet. It can only get better in the final version not worse.

Blah blah dated hardware, obsolete hardware, PC superior, look at the size of my graphics card, etc, etc. How many times do we have to essentially repeat the same thread?

The fog and sandstorms that made a five-foot draw distance in Morrowind didn't particularly bother me, the pop-in in OB didn't bother me, so I wager a little pop-in with Skyrim won't bother me, either.

Hey guys, there was actually an EXTREMELY noticeable bit of pop-up in the demo, which is the only real example of gameplay we've had. At around the 6:07 mark in the first part, you see about 3 trees magically appear in the upper right. But really, that's the only case of pop-up I noticed in the demo,, and i was actively looking for it.

You do know that build is completely outdated right?? Like i said take it with a grain of salt, in a video Todd even went into detail of how they render things in the distance differently from previous titles so maybe this wasn't "fully" implemented yet it would make sense if it wasn't.

I know....I want to talk about the game...not the fact the little Jimmy has a SuperMega Jama Quad Processor with 30 UltraMega Gigs of Ram and base speakers that can svck your navel out of your left ear....I don't care. More power to him if thats what he wants. I plan on enjoying the game no matter the platform.

No. This is a discussion forum, where people can moan and worry until the game is released.

I think every gamer goes through the same tribulation the first time they look forward to a game intently and realize post-release that the game does not only exhibit all the problems that were shown in marketing videos, but is actually worse and missing features.

Try not to take it to hard in November.

And after release, march around like a mob wielding pitchforks and torches and complaining that Bethesda's dumbed it down for the casuals and made the worst game ever.

(At least if it's anything like the Oblivion launch, where the place was uninhabitable for months)

Oblivion wasn't really Bethesda's fault cause they didn't have the correct specs for the console until very late thus them cutting content because it would make the Xbox freak out and RROD... So you can't really use that example. Also this isn't my first time around a release i've learned along time ago to keep my expectations low so i win either way it goes, when i say take previews with a grain of salt it goes both ways.
