New heads on creatures

Post » Sat Jan 08, 2011 4:49 am

Hey guys, I'm making a werewolf out of a minotaur base but I'm having trouble. I've got the body working fine thanks to "Blender/Creature Meshes 101" tutorial which is further than I thought I'd get tbh =]
found here "http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Blender/Creature_Meshes_101"

But now I don't know how to continue, tbh I can't really remember what I did but I think I just followed the same steps for a head model. Its just things keep going wrong or aren't available for a head model as they are for a body i.e. a skeleton.

Any help would be appreciated. I guess my final aim would be a wolf's head on a minotaur's body.
I have access to blender, nifskope and gimp

okay thanks

You might want to download http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/488-tamriel-worldspace-creature-pack/ and look over the Wulvryn to see how it was done. You could also contact the author (StarX) and ask for some tips.

Thanks TheVyper, I did already try to work a creature mod back to see how they did it but to no avail =[ Just couldn't work out the steps.

I'll defo get in contact with the author tho so thanks =)

In the meantime if anyone else wants to help me with this problem I'm still all ears =)

Unless you are wanting to create morphs for the face, which you can't export in blender anyway, why not just have the creature as all one object? just rig it all together like normal. even if it uses a separate texture for the head, I am pretty sure blender will split a mesh at export according to material id. so if you had 2 materials on you creature in the blend file, one for head one for body, you'll end with 2 nitrishapes in the exported nif. Its not a problem. Or you could just rig the head and have it in a separate nif and all parts of the creature should be available in the CS when you set it up.
heads need not be complicated, its just like the body.

I actually did this my self :)

I used the minotaur body to make a werewolf, werebear, and, wereboar. What I did (similar to what Ghogiel said) simply attached the bear/wolf/boar head to the minotaur body in blender. The one thing I did differently was I made one texture for the whole body/head. I think if you had two textures it would leave you with a noticeable seam that would also be difficult to fix. So I just added the UV of the heads with the UV of the minotaur body and altered the texture appropriately.

Also like Ghogiel said I could not find a way animate the heads.
