This new theme is beautiful. Already, it feels even more definitive to the series than I think the tracks from Morrowind and Oblivion ever were.
Morrowind's theme, while very melodious and "fantastical" sounding to me, kind of loses itself halfway through as the brass becomes simply overbearing. There's the distinct opening minute and the ending, but inbetween you just kind of lose yourself in it. By contrast, Oblivion's theme had a very nice and distinctive opening but the rest was all very weak and you felt less of a progression than its predecessor had. This combines the best of both worlds, exhilarating like Oblivion's but with the playful notes and instrumental flourishes of Morrowind's.
I
love light, dancing harpsichord and string sounds that chime in before the second stanza. They make the song and the world itself feel very "airy" and adventurous, kind of like in Celtic music. Then we end with the Dragonish choir, which only adds a further degree of weight and awesomeness to it all.
Seriously psyched - I just hope Jeremy Soule can deliver equally well with the rest of the game's tracks.
