New IGN article combat bummer

Post » Fri Aug 05, 2011 6:40 pm

a recent ign article discussing their hands on demo of skyrim gave a lot of encouraging information about the game. but, unfortunately, it also states that the combat was "still far from the feel of an action game"

which kinda svcks in my opinion. i was hoping the game would have the visceral impact of an action game but it seems like my fears that it will be floaty like oblivion have come to fruition.

on an up note, the article also seems to indicate that there will be much more depth to the perk system that we previously anticipated.

here read it for yourself

You must of skipped how they went on about the feeling o heavy weapons and such. Or was that a different article?

Action game's combat systems are terrible in my opinion and would never fit in with an RPG, especially a well known Hack and Slash RPG series.

The way I look at it is the game itself will be a great improvement on past games so I am happy.

Nearly every video game is an "action game".

It was in that article. After reading IGN's article, it sounded like they liked the combat to me. They said it was better than Oblivions.

...the line directly after your quotes states; it doesn't feel as floaty as previous TES games, weapons feel weighted etc etc.

I don't want it to feel like an action game, so I'm satisfied.

Sounds like someone biased towards action games.

RPGs are meant to be slower paced. That's why they are "RPGs" and not "action games."

Cuz its not CoD so they try to nitpick at other games. I don't care what that one bozo at IGN said about Skyrim's combat system. Its not an action game its an RPG game. Never trust IGN unless you're a CoD really devoted fan.

It's from a review from a critic... and above all- it's just an opinion from a person. We just have to judge it for ourselves.

Do you guys remember how melee was handled in Fallout 3 ?! when you hit somebody with your huge hammer and they would explode (if you had that perk I can't remember its name) !
Skyrims melee will probably be like Fallout's but with more depth ...

It probably means it doesn't feel like an action game because you are not pulling off incredibly flashy combos and moving from 1 target to another with relative ease or because of the lack of explosions other games have.

Remember this is an elder scrolls game, flashy combos, in my opinion, don't have much of a place on TES. Leave them for games such as Devil May Cry, etc.

Well, we don't want a new Dragon Age 2, do we? That game became less of an rpg and more of a hack and slash.

it is if your a super soldier.

what i mean is that when you get hit with a ghost in halo, you fly backwards realistically.

it would be cool if there were more convincing physics in skyrim when you get hit by a mammoth or frost atranoch

Incorrect. You slide backward, sometimes for dozens of feet, as if on wheels.
