[RELz/WIPz] New Imperial City

Post » Mon Jul 12, 2010 3:53 pm

Well, bad news, folks. It seems that my computer's hard drive has been rendered unusable. Who knew using magnets to hold up pictures of my
grandchildren on my computer would hurt it? They should really put stuff like that in the manual.

WAIT, WAIT! FOUND IT. It was hiding from me in case I beat it again with the belt.

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25113

Anyway, this is a public alpha. I like to imagine I got all the bugs in the city (HAHAHAHA, YEAH RIGHT.)
This is now open for anyone to comment on, critique, make suggestions, tell me where I can shove it, or get your degree!

For now, it contains only the exterior worldspaces, a few NPCs with VERY limited AI, and all-in-all, about a tenth of the content
you can expect to be in the final release. Since I finished the alpha I've gone ahead and started the beta version, and that's going just peachy.
Going at this rate, I should be done with the mod by the end of the year! next summer! next year! AHHHHAHAHAHAHA HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!!!

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM FUTURE RELEASES
Books, books, books: FrenchNinja has sacrificed his free time and a couple of family members to write a ton of books. More than my 7 year old cousin can read, anyway. And that's a lot.

Quests: I have a number of quests written on paper and voice actors ready to do the lines. No joke.

NPCs: Yeah, I know I already mentioned them, but this section needs some filling up. I will have a ridiculous amount of NPCs

Interiors: I hate not having interiors, and they're one the of the first things I've started on in the beta copy. Be they run-of-the-mill homes for NPCs, manors, or dungeons. I've begun work on them.

PEOPLE WHO JUST NEED A GOOD THANKING
FrenchNinja: He's like my vice-UCM. He's written so much stuff for this mod (That, unfortunately, you won't see in this release) and come up with some excellent ideas (Some you'll probably see.)

HumanFight: He's been the single best tester I've had. He's the one person who has, on occasion, sat me down and told me, "Dude, this stuff svcks. Do it again."

Luigicrowd: He's my moral support. With such great inspirational words as "UCM, stop playing with yourself and work on the mod."

Korrow: He's the one to thank for taking the crap I do and making it beautiful.

I love these guys very, very, very much.

WELL, SIR, FOR YOUR INFORMATION
I know there are those who poke around in the CS when they find a big mod like this. You will be bombarded with error messages. I have spent literally a week researching them all. I have fixed several, others are simply unfixable or weird. Nonetheless, absolutely none of them have any impact on gameplay or immersion. They are entirely harmless.

HELP WANTED
Someone who can edit or make meshes with any degree of skill.

An artist who can help with the real immersion, such as the graffiti talked about in earlier threads.

Spoiler
Also, Bruce Willis turns out to be a ghost in The Sixth Sense. Thought you should know.

PS: damn you for your sixth sence spoiler, I was about to watch that movie!\

PPS: Start a new game if you want to test this, most of ImpeREAL city wont work with this, except for the Market district, Talos Plaza & Almost all the elven gardens (Except for a few trees, which you can disable)

If you were really about to watch that movie when you read this, I will give myself a high-five. Now I'm going to go get drunk and wake up in a tub of ice sans kidneys.

Also, pictures and LOD will be up soon.

Someone who can edit or make meshes with any degree of skill.

So then, barely any skill at all would suffice?
I haven't done much modeling since, Morrowind, but I'm starting to get back into it.

Also, I just took a look around the alpha, and it looks great, though unfinished. I really like the palace.

Thanks, you ruined the sixth sense for me. Unbelievable, that was the least I'd expected under that spoilerfield.

Oh, it's the definition of unfinished. I've already started work on part of the beta. Because I a glutton for punishment.

But, if you're willing to lend a hand, PM me, or send me a message of YIM (preferred). the_ucm_2003

Thanks, you ruined the sixth sense for me. Unbelievable, that was the least I'd expected under that spoilerfield.

*High-fives self* for watching the Sixth Sense (long) BEFORE reading UCM's spoiler-script :D
(Just don't post the Fight Club spoiler; that would be even crueler to the unsuspecting modder who reads it)

Anyhoo, I seem to have picked a good day to randomly come back and check on my favorite Oblivion mos sites; I had been keeping tabs on this for a long time before I (unofficially) quit. It looks amazing, and I am going to bust Oblivion out for the first time in months bacause of you (give yourself a pat on the back or something :P). Anyhoo, assuming I don't lose my mind (also assuming I havn't already) or die (
Spoiler
LIKE BRUCE WILLIS
), I'll try to get you feedback on this soon-ish.

...oh right... I'm running an HP Pavilion with an NVidia 6150 SE... my computer already ate and vomited back up the base textures and crowded exteriors at less than 15 FPS; if it had higher wattage my PC would burst into flames upon running this... well, once I get my new PC (give it another 10 years or so :P), THEN I will play this and tell you how awesome it is. Until then, I give you the benefit of the doubt; it looks great.

Cheers!

Did I ever mention I ****ing love you?

I think we should promote you to Diety... Ah damnit. Where did I leave my Heart of Lorkhan? Oh yes, there it is. What was I saying?

UCM, if you need someone to do AI in the foresee-able future, I'm your man. I've been waiting for you to finish the Alpha so I could actually do something constructive.

I demand I am mentioned in the 'Thank you' section, in the name of Thor, God of Thunder, for being an awesomely awesome fan.

Question on the old Temple District's NPCs. For example, would the Cyrodiil NPC Remodeling Project, that'll no doubt change afermentioned NPCs inventories, work with your mod?

If it only changes the inventories and doesn't touch the AI/script tied to the NPC in any way I can't see why it wouldn't work with this mod, and the Cyrodiil NPC project didn't release an Imperial City version yet, aye? Or am I missing something? :)

As long as a mod doesn't touch any IC locations (Refs, objects) etc. it should be compatible.

If it does touch any IC locations, load it infront of this mod - and it should work, HOWEVER.. any mod that adds certain objects or references to the temple district, arena district or prison district will not be viewable, since the locations of these districts have been moved and the objects added can therefore not be seen. (I'm talking mainly about ImpeREAL districts) Any mod that moves around the objects in certain districts will NOT* be compatible, same for the mods adjusting scripts in certain districts - as this will crash your game on startup. (Most of the time :P )

300 Regal Imperial Cities should be compatible with this.

ImpeREAL districts that are compatible are:
Market district.
Talos Plaza district.
Elven Garden district (There's a very minor error, a few trees blocking the newly added door. open the console (~) select the trees and type ''disable'' on all of the trees that are blocking the door.
This -should- fix it)

So it's been... Hmmm... 13 days since the release. Oh well, who cares. Time for some pictures of the new stuff I've been doing since then.

Stupid jokes aside, I have been working on improving performance in problem areas, huge thanks going to Korrow for providing me with meshes. He is responsible for the improved hedgemaze, the new bookshelves, and finally (although I forgot to take any pictures of it) the Arcane University island. As of now I'm working on NPCs. It was just suggested I update the thread with new pictures. And I had nothing better to do.

Hows compatability looking on this?

Might it be time for me to walk into the world of Oblivion modding?
Because from what I've seen of this it is made of awesomeness but I'm very reluctant to just get rid of the epicness in UL, so I was thinking: patch.

Incompatible and not patchable. You'll have to stop using UL Imperial Isle, but the other ULs are unaffected.

How can it be entirely unpatchable?
If the answer is too long you could point to some place which I can read more about it :P

Well think about it. The UL imperial isle mod revamps the entire isle. This mod also revamps the entire isle, it expands the city over it!
Just look at the screenshots, once this mod is complete there wont be much of the isle to walk on anymore - the city envelopes the entire thing. Theres simply no room for both mods.

Because this mod engulfs nearly the entire island and leaves no room for the space the UL covers. When you have a situation like that there's not much you can do other than decide which one you want more and remove the other.
