Falout 3 did an good work in merging them, like how skills affected spread the you was shooting, unskilled and bullets goes everywhere. Master and the aim assist feel natural, your carracter is better at shooting than you.

However weapon handling was bad, this was much better in NV

I don't necessarily agree, I felt that Fallout 3 had terrible gunplay but was much improved in New Vegas thanks to IronSight. Although I did like that Sniper long range in sights in Fallout 3 was determined by your gun skill. With what the article says, Gunplay should be improved.

The area based level scaling is really great! I can't wait to find myself stumbling on a wrong area, then go through an exciting escape from a horde of *gulp* deathclaws or even "weaker" types of enemies like raiders... Just imagine if you thought that the raider gang you are seeing in the new area you are exploring are the same as the raider gang you first encountered, just to see them ripping you apart with missile launchers and fat mans....

EDIT: Oh and kudos for Bethesda for their efforts in collaborating with other developers! I think that really shows their effort in improving the game, hopefully.

Question: Microsoft just announced that mods created on PC will work with the XBox One version of Fallout. Will there be paid mods? Bethesda experimented with the paid Mods on Skyrim, which has been canceled after protest from the community!

Todd: How long was the pay system online? 24 hours? I can only talk for now, but right now there are no plans for a paid mod system!

I did notice the "Hold Your Breath" when aiming, also you can throw grenades while your gun is equipped. These are major improvements for Fallout's combat!

I'm not quite sure what he means by rubber band? Does this mean scaling is more relaxed?

I think he means the map is going to bounce you around more, due to having to avoid these high level areas, instead of being able to go in a stright line all the time.

Bungie folks been involved, I honestly got that tight, fun gunplay vibe they are skilled at doing with the demo so it kinda makes sense.

Old grey haired fans can grumble as much as they want, this game looks fun as heck.

I wonder how prevalent the whole fail state/branching paths thing is going to be. I mean "more than in Fallout 3" isn't saying much if i recall correctly, haven't played FO3 in ages but i don't remember alot of branching paths.

Everyone is mis-understanding the leveling scaling bullet point.

What Todd is saying is that there will be leveled areas in the game world - i.e. some areas will have enemies Levels 5-10, others will have Level 30 enemies, etc. This is the exact same thing they did in FO3 and Skyrim. What happened though, was that once you entered an area, it became "locked". So the enemies that spawned in it would always be Level 10 at most (using the first area example).

The rubberbanding Todd is talking about is that in FO4, when you first encounter an area, it might be full of Level 5-10 enemies, but when you come back later in the game, it might have Level 30 enemies. So unlike Skyrim and FO3, you can't ever take for granted that the enemies you are encountering are weak.

That's my interpretation. Otherwise Todd is literally bragging about a feature that has been present for two games already.

Did they also fix the melee combat?

I hope they also consulted with Arkane, not just id. Arkane's Dishonered and even their decade old Dark Messiah have a much better first person melee combat than FO3/NV and even Skyrim.

I think you're misunderstanding him. He's saying "this area will be 5-10, and this area will be 30+".

He's saying that, unlike the previous games, areas will have enemies that only scale up so high, and other areas have enemies that only scale down so low. So the area with level 30 enemies will scale up, but they'll never scale below that and if you go there at level 10 you will be eaten.

They have that in Skyrim and Fo3.

I think he is really say that are actually going to do it for more like then 10 locations like the past games.

I mean the actual combat, not mechanics/numbers.

None of BGS's attempts quite match Arkane's. But that company is now under their wing, so steal dem' ideas like they did with id's shooting.

This can be the best game of all time with the tight melee and ranged combat of those two companies in a BGS world.

Two big things I was hoping for. Better FPS and better scaling.

The studio even hired away some Bungie talent to help with this remodel.
