New info from Game Informer!

http://www.gameinformer.com/games/fallout_4/b/playstation4/archive/2015/06/17/19-new-details-fans-need-to-know-about-fallout-4.aspx?PageIndex=2 I'm not sure if some of this stuff has been posted already, but I found some really great information I wanted to share. Here is a few... Bethesda is tweaking the way auto-scaling works for Fallout 4 to create more challenge. "We call it rubberbanding; we'll have an area [where enemies scale from] level 5 to 10, and then this area will be level 30 and above," Howard says. "You'll run into stuff that will crush you, and you will have to run away." Fallout 4's narrative has a lot more branching paths and overlapping of "if that than this" than Fallout 3. They want the game to handle all the fail states of missions instead of forcing players to reload saves. Combat is receiving a major stimpak thanks to some consulting with id Software to improve the second-to-second shooting. Bethesda's goal? To have the shooting stand shoulder to shoulder with the other great options on the market. The studio even hired away some Bungie talent to help with this remodel. With the new, built-from-scratch shooting system, Howard says Fallout 4 plays much more like a modern shooter. You can aim down the sights, use V.A.T.S., and play in first or third person.

I think it's a vast improvement! The way it was before they were too close to your level making enemies too easy at times.

"Fallout 4's narrative has a lot more branching paths and overlapping of "if that than this" than Fallout 3."

Probably my biggest gripe with Skyrim. Very happy Bethesda is focusing on telling intriguing stories, instead of just simple fetch quests.

Great, shooting mechanics in F3 were pretty poor.

I like the idea of the gunship, hopefully as you progress in the story you can send vital supplies for a settlement a lot quicker by ordering vertibird gunships to move from settlement to settlement.

Hearing about the narrative stuff makes me wonder if Fallout New Vegas is the inspiration behind that, since New Vegas had plenty of ways to deal with failure states and had a lot of choices. Also the criticism from Skyrim having too much fetch quests is probably another factor.

I KNEW those shooting mechanics looked familiar in the E3 demo, especially after watching DOOM gameplay just before it. Well, good. It's nice to see Bethesda leveraging their talent and connections. You can't get much better than having id and Bungie employees come in to fix your shooting mechanics. That also means the "pistol whipping" we saw earlier is likely a "knock-back" attack like in most modern shooters, designed to open space between you and your attacker.

If you notice in the gameplay demo, you can also hold your breath when sniping to steady your aim.

Good. I hope the shooting mechanics and enemy combat AI actually feels like a solid, fluid FPS at its base (ignoring the RPG perks). FO3's gun system was pretty bad, and the physics were even worse at times. I hope to expect enemies will actually use cover, and not run at you with knives while taking 5 rounds in the face.

I didn't see anything that bothered me, and I loved most of it.

Really, the voiced protagonist is the only complaint I have left about what we've seen so far. I wish I could get my hands on one of those cryofreeze chambers the protagonist wakes up in and set it for November ...

This doesn't necessarily mean that stats won't have a big effect on combat, but I'm fairly certain that is the case. We're going to get a FPS shoot-em-up or in other words Borderlands yay.. *sigh*

I hope it's not too much FPS and still have some RPG aspects of it.

its cool to hear about the fps improvements. i mean, if u r gonna have that in your game, you might as well make it tight. the rubberbanding stuff sounds pretty much the same as what they said about fallout 3 and skyrim, tho. im interested to see how this branching quest stuff works out in practice...

I'm really happy about the level scaling thing. I prefer the idea that some areas are safer than others, rather than losing half a settlement because the game decided to roll a Deathclaw on the other side of the area and didn't tell you.

Luck 'skill'?! I hope the writer got it wrong, luck still wouldn't be a skill, but stat.

I'm with you both, I was there for the drama in skyrim modding and I can guarantee it will happen again if they do it for Fallout 4.

No Paid Mods as of now, although they said the same thing about Kinect before Skyrim so we'll see. :D
