Yeah your late  but I don't think there was a topic about the interview, just one about the comments that Todd made at the end.

Oops, I misspoke - there was another thread #2 and it was locked because of

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1208085-todd-howard-on-scope-vision-of-skyrim-thread-2/page__view__findpost__p__18055257

"Actually, I think it's time to put this to rest. Something I should've added in closing the other thread. Nothing good can come from it.

Todd saying boo or bah doesn't necessarily mean the game will feature nasty cows. "

So I guess this thread will be locked as well.

Not really influence from CoD but I think what he was saying is that CoD itself has more depth than most people give it credit for. I don't particularly care for the game but there are actually lots of options for setting yourself up in multiplayer in a way that suits your play style, and there are tangible benefits to investing yourself into the game to a great degree. What's really wrong with Call of Duty isn't that it's "casual" but rather that they've made Call of Duty 4 three times now and are gearing up to release it for the fourth time later this year

What really matters here is this: When you have a passionate and devoted audience of fans that resent any sort of implication that the game is being dumbed down or casualized or stripped of RPG elements there is really one game that you don't want to draw parallels to if you don't want to piss them off: Call of Duty, the Madden of shooting terrorists with often grossly inaccurate guns whilst maintaining pretensions of "realism."

Nothing new in it, but I hadn't seen it before. And, of course, Todd's awesome to hear from in any respect. Thanks for sharing!

What does hardcoe mean, anyways? I challenge you to give me a widely agreed-upon definition.

I hate COD

With that said, I dont think todd is stupid enough(he is not stupid at all!) and the game will surely not be influenced by COD... its silly to think that way.

I think it is just a simple fact that there will be influeces from other games included in Skyrim, of features that have worked well before in other games. Todd has said for example that Bioshock has given some influence to how the spell system works.

It's new to me, at least...

And I don't understand the issue with him just mentioning COD. Just because they have one minor similarity doesn't mean that you're going to start using grenades instead of destruction magic to slay your dragons!

Good thing you wasn't here earlier that last paragraph was totally blown out of proportion and people were overreacting. What didn't help though was the way both OPs just quoted the last paragraph and to me it was blatantly just to get a reaction from the community... That lasted till the post limit and to be fair I hope the forums don't get that low again. :sadvaultboy:

I never saw that post, hence why I though this was new. So I don't know what it was like.

I hope people can at least be constructive in any criticism they have rather than just being angry.

As said in the last thread, I like a bit of COD every now and then... but a hardcoe FPS game it aint. :P When I think of hardcoe FPS games, I think of old tactical shooters on the PC, and competitive clan tournaments... not people running around like headless chickens trying desperately to get killstreaks so the game can do most of the work for them.

As for COD having RPG elements, Todd is probably right, but they're so trivial, shallow, and gimmicky that it's really not something that should be mentioned in a conversation about Skyrim. In fact, I really don't know why he'd even bring it up. Something like this was clearly going to wind up certain TES fans...

What troubles me most about that interview though is the fact that he suggests Oblivion was too complicated and confusing. If anything, the opposite is true.
